Toby

If you can wait for a couple months, I'll try to make a few "kits". Let me know if you find the sensors in the meantime. Another item to find is the Bosch connector that goes to the connector. Everything else I can make.

Jerry, a friend of mine who works for some car company located in Stuttgart (wink, wink!) suggested that we check out the manifold pressure sensor from the 991 (948-606-180-00) as a possible option. I bought one today for $63.27 (list is $72.72). The label describes the part as a "Pressure Sensor Suction". The Bosch numbers on it are 0 261 230 248, so it seems we are close. My buddy is going to look through his documentation to get the specs on it. He indicated that all of the pressure sensors on the car operate on a 5V signal. The only other physical difference I can see is that the electrical connector on the sensor in your pictures is angled perhaps 45 degrees off of perpendicular to the fitting into the pipe. And so the collaboration begins!!

When you are adding this to a car not originally equipped, are you just wiring it directly to the aim or motec dash with a separate connector or are you somehow able to tie into the main engine harness which connects with the 2 big barrel plugs?

Claykos, I plan to wire directly to my AiM dash. Since my 2001 Cup came with the Porsche/Motronic ECU and not the Bosch MS 3.1 ECU, I really can't get any info from the ECU anyway. Wiring directly to the AiM MXL will at least give me an opportunity to trigger a flashing alarm on the dash and hopefully keep me from destroying the engine!

Jerry, I was poking around this morning and found this technical information on the Bosch MAP sensor (Bosch part 0 261 230 052) included in your pictures on page 1 of this thread. Here is a link to the Bosch technical reference for the 052 MAP sensor. Bosch MAP Sensor Technical Reference. The nice thing about the reference is that it provides the signal specifications, the wiring diagram and the part number for the Bosch connector! Still looking for this info for the 248 sensor I purchased yesterday.

OBTW, it would appear that the Porsche part number for the 052 sensor is 9R4 606 205 00 (at least according to Bosch. I can't verify that part number with any of the PET catalogs I have on hand).

I was looking around and I think 996.606.205.00 is a fuel tank pressure sender. Saw them for like $175 online.

Thanks for the info. I have an ms 3.1 but no pressure sender in the R. Been thinking about adding....

Just an FYI for those of you who are considering buying the parts for this upgrade. PMNA wants $758.26 plus tax for the various fittings, connectors and hose. I'm NOT CERTAIN that the pricing includes the pressure sensor!

Toby, that price does include the sensor.

I've been able to source a sensor and I believe the correct connector, which was quite difficult to find. I'm waiting to get my hands on them to verify that it is the correct fit. At that point I'll need to make two adapters and a short hose. My research has determined that Bosch wants the sensor mounted horizontally, thus the flexible hose. Unfortunately, my lathe is in Florida and I'm in Maine for a few more weeks.

Jerry, is the sensor you sourced a Bosch one? If so, that MAP sensor catalog also lists the proper electrical connector that will mate to the female plug molded on to the sensor. The proper connector for the 052 sensor is Bosch part number 1 928 403 966. Here's the link in the Bosch electrical connector catalog - 052 Electrical Connector I'll ping Zim's here in the DFW area as they are a Bosch dealer and let you know.

Yes, I bought Bosch sensor 0 261 230 029. I also bought the proper connector (I have them in my hands and they are correct) 1 928 403 966. You also need pins and seals and I bought the proper boot. The connector and associate parts is as expensive as the sensor. My buddy is sending me the Porsche sensor kit so I can measure the other parts.

A bit of an aside, but do you all think this would work to monitor street GT3 engines as well?

You'd have to figure out a place to put it, because the cam position sensor on the right bank is active on the street cars with variable valve timing, whereas it's just a dummy on the cup which is replaced by this sensor.

Figured that, will have to see where I can put it, finding a place to measure crank case pressure shouldn't be overly hard, hopefully don't have to drill and tap a hole!
