Default Watch out for: Eduardo Baptista

I bought a RL listed 964 RS America 3.8 more then 2 months ago from Eduardo Baptista. He also owns a company called racepartswarehouse.net. I flew all the way from Amsterdam to Miami and inspected the car at Zotz Racing. All good. Great company. Not a negative note there. I then paid the car in full and was expecting to get the title. But i never did. Everything is in writing, signed, with copies of his i.d. and more then 130 emails of correspondence. Still no title so far. Eduardo Baptista keeps promising to send it but he has not so far. In the mean time i have seeked legal help. It turns out there was still a claim on that car by Anthracite Leasing, FL. Maybe Eduardo was not even allowed to sell it to me. What a mess. I trusted this guy and he took advantage of that. Furious. Be aware of this guy and don't do business with him. PM me if you want to know all the details.

This is the car i bought: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=84112

If you have a bill of sale, it should state that you bought the car "free and clear of all liens". It is always helpful to look at the title befotehand to make sure that there are no lien holders.

Hope this works out for you.

I have a bill of sale, signed with copy of his passport and driving license. Also an agreement where he states to be the rightful owner, entitled to sell the car and that there are no legal or 2rd party claim on the car. To be continued. I hope ........

did you ask for a copy of the title before you bought the car, front adn rear ? he could be the rightful owner, etc. but what ive seen a lto of times if that folks leave the title open, or someone endorses it over to the buyer. and that buyer doesnt register it with DMV, doesnt get a title. so when they go to sell it, they realize they have to title it in order to get a valid title to transer to the next buyre. and that means, well, paying sales tax at that time. i had a gt1 that took 6 months to get title from the State of Texas for some reason from the prior owner. the only good thing was that i had 1/5 the purchase price and the car in my hands.
good luck. ask them for a copy of whatever title they have, and you'll probably understand the headache or delay. it will also let you know if none exists in which case you're better of escalating the situation immediately.

Drives home the need to investigate the mechanics of conveyance under the legal system applicable to the vehicle. I was shocked that the UK does not title motor vehicles so there is no registry to determine ownership of a vehicle one might buy. Very different to the USA where each state maintains a vehicle registry. Hope your issue resolves soon in a satisfactory manner.

Eddie doesn't own the vehicle. It was leased from Anthracite Leasing of South Florida who is the legal owner. Eddie sold the car, took the money and never paid off the leasing company.
How do I know all this? I am the owner of the leasing company. We also took back the GT-2 that he probably told everyone was his.
The entire matter is now being handled by law enforcement. Eddie is headed for big trouble along with his wife as she had to co-sign the lease for him.
I am a long time PCA member and a national DE Instructor. I am well known around Florida and the entire Northeast.
And the GT-2 is available for sale or lease. And we can provide proof of ownership. We have that title along with the title to the RSA. We also hold both a NJ and Florida dealer's License.

Yikes, sorry this happened to you OP. Rest of the forum should be educated before other transactions are made to RPW.
