yannick, be careful. if u know how they drive they prbably could do some lead follows .
i dont think it was the drivers fault. from what i hear the throttle stuck. not sure what he coulda done different? maybe loop the car. RIP and hope the 20 year old recovers.

If the throttle stucks I'd put my foot on the clutch first and hit the ignition switch right after. But maybe there was just not enough time...
Of course I hope that the driver recovers! Does anybody know something new about him?

Each time I have a failure (broken axle, exploded tyre...), I think about what could have happened if I had been in a pack of cars, on a track without escape ways... But I keep pushing the starter button because life would be boring being scared of the "that could happen" thing, and, hey, this is why I get up early in the morning and work for !
Rest in peace Sean, and congratulations on your past life...

I am in Australia and read about it in the paper.
As an instructor I quickly hid it from my wife as she's not thrilled about the risks.
So sad to read about such a great driver, so young, so much to do still. My condolences.
From what I read I took it as being a street car that he was coaching in.. Wrong?
It was really a CUP car with all the safety gear? The runoff was through gravel into tires it seemed. What went so wrong?

996 Cup (or R/RSR).
But you cannot change the laws of physics. Gravel won't stop you at a very high speed. And it will take a huge amount of tires to absorb an impact at that speed. Weren't it for the fire there still is the tremendous deceleration when you go head-on into a wall that can kill you.
Here another tribute. J.Bleekemolen:
