Default Schooling on Tires

I've advanced searched for 'best tire' 'best slick' and 'best track tire' here and nothing specific comes up. I have thousands of posts on many different forums and find that search more often than not does not work. It must be here but I don't want to scroll through page after page to find it. So please avoid the "search for it" default comments

So... how about bringing me up to speed as to which tires most people are using on their Cup cars?

Best slicks? Best rains? Best DOT R? Straight out best and pretty darn good but much more economical? i.e. best bang for the buck. Practice vs race day?

Used to be some tracks would not let you run slicks on Driver's School track days. Is that still the case?

I know "best" is subjective, but there must be some consensus narrowing it down to a few tires.

Radial vs bias ply slicks is another question. People used to talk about bias having an advantage for certain applications. But maybe that was only for cars that couldn't get enough negative camber set.

If there are already some threads that cover all this, and you can easily find them, please provide the links and move on

Thank you.

Pirelli slicks last a long time, about as fast at the end of an enduro as the start. Don't lose much each heat cycle.

New Hoosier cup should be very good but not much data, I will try them soon.

Michelin is the standard cup tire, works great but may not last long and too pricey.

There are no bias tires for cups and used slicks will be better than new DOT tires.

I am running the Hoosier cup slicks...seem great to me... then again I was running R6 Hoosiers prior. Hoosier cups don't go off during the race...the harder you drive the better they get. I have run them 12 heat cycles so far...did my fastest laps on the 10th heat cycle. I run them because Hoosier has a contingency program in NASA GTS.

I looked on both websites and didn't fine the Hoosier Cups or the Pirelli DH.

I guess I'll find out later, but what size tires does my 08/09 car take? I assume they all run the same size wheels and tires for each model.

Still on tires but on an aside, I was watching a video of a Chris Harris driving a 2010 Cup and he was saying the car was both under-steering and over-steering. I don't see how you can get both at once unless the car was set up really odd or the tires were too new or cold or it's under tired. Cup at 2:30

No I haven't. Still lots of miles between us.

But I have been told that they are in fact under-tired.

More exciting I guess

Does anyone running Hoosier Cup Tires R80 front and R100 rear on 996 Cup Car have cold and hot pressure starting points?
Thanks

How would you rate them? Like, if you had to order in terms of pace:

Michelin N2 (S8E Blue)
Pirelli DH
Hoosier Slick

Haven't tried Michelin, Pirelli are nice but when they go off, they are gone...

I have run the s80/s100 hoosier on a 997 cup. Very good tire. I was told they were designed for a gt3 challenge series in Europe and labeled continentals there. They are plenty fast but do not wear as well as the Pirelli. I haven't done a back to back on the same day to compare all out speed but the lap times on hoosiers have been very good. They are cheaper than the other brands as well which doesn't hurt at all. I have also heard they are going to offer a contingency package for GTA1/2 in pca soon similar to what they do for scca and nasa. I have been told the R is using the same construction as the new S but we haven't had enough experience with the current R to have an opinion.

I ran the same set up as the Pirelli. No changes, just put hoosiers straight on.

My experience with Pirelli's has been excellent. Far better life without giving up much grip compared with Michelins N1's I ran for 2 years. The Michelins did warm up quicker but fell off after a few heat cycles. I've been running my 997 with a set of Pirelli's with well over 10 heat cycles and they still have decent grip, Michelins would have been off far earlier.
