Default Working under the car

Is there a safe way using the air jacks to have the car up high enough so one can do some work under the car? I am not talking engine or gearbox out jobs but just doing a check-up after trackday/race to see if everything is still tightened and in one piece. It's a bit overkill buying a lift just for that methinks.

I would never go under a car that is just held up with airjacks. But one can use the airjacks to lift the car from the ground and put other things under it to support the vehicle.

And it's not a matter of saving 10 minutes either. It's a matter of installing a lift in your garage

Btw how high do the air jacks lift the car? Can you get these jack stands under it or do you need air jack extensions?

We had to do just that at road america a week ago. Friend had his throw out bearing die, so we lifted car with the stand shown above, to double high it.

Pulled trans out, changed clutch and throw out bearing, reinstalled and made the enduro.

Work great.

Where do you get those stands?? They are cool.

When I'm at the track, I use blocks made from 6x6 to rest the car on at single height, and then I have another set of 3 blocks that I put under the airjacks to get to double height, and then put the ac jackstands underneath. The aluminum stands are really nice, but pricey.

At home, before I got a lift, I used to do the traditional porsche lifting method (lift one side, then the other, then the rear). You just have to put blocks under the rear wheels to get the jack under the engine. I even got a second n2 tank just for the shop, and still used a jack and stands.

The double height jackstands are great. I would still use a regular jack stand as a secondary though. The fact that the double heights do not key together make me nervous.

BTW, even with a lift, you either need to raise the car on jackstands or drive on a block of wood just to get the arms under the car.

Thanks

Ed

Company out of Atlanta makes Stands and double high stands. Just used them to pull the gearbox at a race. Worked great. Look to spend about $2500 for them but its your life at stake. If you call Goldcrest in Kennesaw Georgia, they can tell you where to get them. You should always use them if any body part is under the car!

Those K&A Eng stands sure look trick. Nothing comes up searching for the company however.

Also who make those 3 leg stands with a center puck top?

It would be really helpful to add contact info when posting products people like, rather than just a photo.

Cup Car Solutions has a safety collar that is only $400. Apex Performance sells a set along with Cup Car Solutions that go double height. There is a guy in CA (?) that makes some stuff that does them too. He does a N2 bottle cage, the safety collars, and something else. Can't remember who though.
