Default 996 gear shift adjustment

The manual says: "Basic alignment:

The position of the gear lever must be adjusted with the setting jig supplied, otherwise the clearance of the ball joints cannot be guaranteed and damage to the rod end bearings and joints can occur.

Special tool: 996 424 395 02 (is delivered with the car)."

Have you seen or used the jig? Really needed? Workaround?

Chris,

Mine was right next to the non-existent air-jack wand "that came with the car"! I wonder if this is a race part that is only available from PMNA?

The part is about $10... local dealer should be able provide or just get from Motorsport.. probably about $20 from them.. All it does is hold the shifter completely neutral so in the middle of the forward backwards gate and the center of the fore aft gate( 3/4 area )

I have two of them. One has a tab broken but it still works. Will ship the broken one for $5 and the other one for $10. Send me an email at sl_streimer at streimer dot com if interested.

Oddly enough, I have seen at least three different colors for these jigs and I think they might be a little different, maybe year to year. Porsche never has a single solution......
