Can anyone share experiance/advice on running blue vs. black axels in a '08 Cup. We primarily run SCCA, PCA, Pirelli Cup sprint race events. Blues are over $3k each and blacks are $700 at the local Porsche dealer. Was wondering if the black axels hold up and are suitable for race use. We don't want any catastrophic failures that put the car at risk or tear up the rear.

I've used both and broken about 3 blues. The blacks are on my car now and no issues...

I have blacks going on my race car, I have heard from ALMS race team engineer's that for 90% of the people running cups the blacks are fine, just have them repacked with a good high quality grease like krytox.

Blue and pankles are good if you are looking for 10ths or have money to spare, if so then go with the titanium axles with holes, I heard those are $10-15K a set

I have used blue and black axles on my cars. The black axles are good for 40-50hrs of use based upon how many curbs you hit and times you launch the car. When a black axle breaks it is usually in the boot which is no big deal. The Blue axles I have seen shear in the middle more often an cause lots of damage. I currently use Black axles, pack them with Krytox grease and you are good to go.

Just curious, how's your car now with the 997 SCCA GT2 restrictor plates? Did they achieve parity between the 996/997?

Car runs fine with restrictor plate in GT2. Still faster than 996 cars if driven well. Seems to lose about 1-1.5 sec at Thunderhill with plate, and very slight loss at end of straight. Data shows very small delta in acceleration that is not perceived by me driving just noted in the times.

we dyno'd it (94h solid running engine) and it made 389hp at the wheels w/o plate and down 17 hp with it.

Havent had a chance to redyno since the new engine has returned rebuilt from PMNA.

Are the blacks from GT3 street cars and if so, would this also work for an '03 996 Cup car ?
PET shows a lot of different ones almost for each year an update. What's the best option ?

Street car axles in mine, wear is fine, price is right, and as long as I'm winning nothing else matters!

The blacks are from GT street cars and turbo street cars. About $700 per axle retail going rate.

How long do you guys run the axels (amature sprint level eg. Pirelli Cup, PCA etc)? I was told 40h life span on the blues.... seems low.

However, recently saw a 7Cup that appears totalled after it broke a 160h blue axel and the driver turned into traffic trying to exit the track w/o power. T-boned and lots of damage. So what is a good number to prevent this kind of falure. Clearly 160h is way beyond, but is 40 too little to toss them.

Does anyone have a part number for black axels that will fit a 07' cup? A friend ordered the 07' street GT3 black axels but they don't have the ABS sensor pickup. Thanks in advance....
