Default What ECU do I have?

2002 996 GT3 Factory Cup

Iinstalled MXL Pista \ Smarty Cam and trying to configure some sensors but I want to verify I'm designating the correct ECU.

How do I verify what ecu I have or will the MXL automatically detect the correct one? Currently I am on Bosch MS3.

I'm go'in with the MS3 (pretty certain that's what it is by all the searches I've reviewed)

Having just been through this with my new '01 Cup, according to the '02 Cup Manual I have in PDF, you have a Bosch MS 3.1 ECU. Porsche part number is 996-618-608-91. I don't think the MXL will automagically recognize it. You'll have to program the dash to recognize that ECU and then determine which channels you want to pick up off of the CAN-Bus.

As best as I can determine, programming the MXL Pista is more "art" than science. Get the manuals from the AiM site and read them thoroughly. You may want to start by downloading what the dash already has defined in its programming. Good luck!

Toby, thanks for the advice. The MXL was already working, I added the SmartyCam and was not getting oil pressure to read correctly. In my infinite wisdom I went through all the channels and settings and changed one here, one there, and didn't write down where I started. So I figured I must have changed the ECU setting. If MS3 is the unit then I'm set right so I'm replacing the oil pressure sending unit.

hey Tim (& Toby?) - how's it going with this - is the Pista a good solution on an older cup?

I've plugged my solo dl into the ODBII and while I'm getting RPM, its sortoff stepped, not as frequent a refresh as with my RS.

I did notice my Hz for rpm was set at 10 so upped it too 100hx - that might have been the problem; will test tomorrow

i tried upping the HZ to 100 but it doesn't seem to have helped re the RPM stepping

Here is the ECU pic with part numbers etc.. anyone know if is this the original 01 ECU? And if this can put out better data re rpm or is it limited to the stepped version above? Just wondering if this ecu will work with AIM Pista Dash?

Sorry I can't help you with your "stepped" rpm graph but I found terrific phone support at AIM. I'm sure they can help.

THe ODBII rates on some of the channels for the early cups is terrible. I get like 2 updates per second on RPM and Temps on my '01. I had to tap directly instead of using ODBII

MS 3 is the correct protocol for an 02 Cup.
