What size wheels are on that incredible 996 RSR? They looked identical to the 997 RSR wheels, which are one piece, right?
Those are the BBS Monobloc wheels that we run on the World Challenge cars. I have a used set of them in 18x10.25 fronts and 18x12 rears......that's what your car needs!

This substantiated our findings at Rennsport when we were .5 seconds slower than the Pirellis run there a month ago under the same conditions.

The Pirelli compound felt a little softer as the Michelin was so much harder after one heat cycle. Then the fronts went away on the Michelin and that killed the performance of the tire.
The Pirelli size is 275/645/18 and 315/675/18.

Hi James, where does one buy the Pirellis and what is the approx cost?

John,

Your Cup is a narrow body, correct? I have the fronts but have to check on the rear fitment as I am not sure I have the narrow body, only the wide RS body fitment......I also have the BBS E88 fitment for the narrow body to make an 18x12 rear, which is what we ran in WC from 2007-2009.

You can buy the Pirelli Slicks directly from us as we are a Pirelli dealer for both slicks and the new Trofeo tire.

Here are the ones I like. They are pretty close to the 997 RSR look. I have never been a fan of the "convex" E88 centers. I know they are super light, but just can't get used to that look. I added another picture of my car so you can see the rear quarter and how the 11" wheel fills it out. I suspect I would have to change to the wider RS quarters to make the 12's work. If that's the case, I will wait till it's bodywork time and make the upgrade.

John, I have the 1 piece monobloc fronts that fit your car and can get the rears from BBS so let me check for you today.

No need for the wide body.......yet!

You could flare your rears a bit like mine and run 13s on the back. I can fit RSR tires but still trying to make them work well.

That's probably the best deal available right now....
What are the starting point suspension settings and pressures for the Yokohamas?

IMSA publishes their max camber and tire pressures for each track they run. It's on page 23:

James,

Sorry to hi-jack, but will you let us know what the monobloc prices are? I'd need the pricing for a WC spec wheel, versus Cup.

Thanks.

John with your WHP you should most definitely consider widening up the rear especially since you already have the wider front fenders. The you won't need to compromise on rims, get the 13's back there and run the bigger tires....

Can they be widened, or is it easier to just buy the wider RS quarters and bumper cover? Either way I think it is something I will do if and when I need to do some body work. I sure do love those 997 RSR wheels though...I could almost create a "poor man's RSR" lol

Now that's a racer's oxymoron.....

I did mean the wider quarter panels....

Fitting 13" wheels isn't the problem, it's the tires you put on the wheels that will be the issue.
RS quarters are the way to go but to fit the 13" wheel in the back with the 31/71/18 tire, you will need to tub the rear quarters quite a bit......we did this with our GT2 Cup and 2008 WC Cup cars. This will enable you to lower the car to the proper ride height as well.

The Monoblocs list for $2495 front and $2795 rear......crazy expensive but I can work out a group buy with our annual buy for the WC season.

Stay tuned....
