I doubt there will be any discounts-- there are none in IMSA or Pirelli Cup. You pay retail tire prices.
It's simply a way for the club to get money. There's nothing wrong with that, but doing it under the guise of 'cost savings for the competitors' is an insult to our intelligence.
I don't see how it evens the playing field any more than being able to run whatever tire you want or happen to have available. If you're in the mid/back of the pack because you don't want to buy new Michelins every weekend, I hate to break it to you.. but now you're going to have even less of a chance to compete with the guys at the front who will be on the same tire as you (and most likely a fresh set while you're trying to save $100 by running tires from the last race).
For the record, I'm not against spec tires, I just don't like the bull**** excuses for doing it.

Well stated. I don't understand the arrogance of PCA making this decision without first polling their GTC racers. Has anyone here been surveyed?...

Michelin Competition Spec Tires
January 10, 2012 - Michelin Competition Tires will be the specified tire for PCA?s Club Racing GTC-3, GTC-4 and GTC-5 classes.
The spec tires will be required for the affected classes beginning at Sebring in 2012. The tires will be N1 in both tire size combinations (24/64-18 and 27/68-18 for pre-2010 Cup cars, 25/64-18 and 30/68-18 for 2010 and up Cup cars).
The agreement for a spec tire is with Jackson Motorsports Group who is the primary distributor of Michelin Competition Tires in the US. All tire ordering information is found at TireOrders@jacksonmg.com.
Jackson Motorsports Group and Michelin?s support of PCA Club Racing?s National Championship series brings a new level of competition and visibility to PCA?s already strong Club Racing program. Working with JMG and Michelin gives PCA a strong support system and a proven
+high quality race tire to help provide a championship series which will be the ultimate in safe, fun and competitive racing.
PCA Club Racing is delighted to be involved with JMG and Michelin and looks forward to a strong and lasting mutually beneficial partnership. Details concerning the sponsorship, contingency programs and other perks will be made available as soon as the details are
+complete.
JMG/Michelin has been a longtime supporter of PCA?s club racing program and their recent commitment to be the points series sponsor further illustrates how they intend to be beside PCA as we take our program to the next level.
PCA Club Racing is off to a great start in 2012 with a strong registration for Sebring and more than 25 races already on the schedule.
Safe Racing!

PCA CR is funny. One minute they promote the club atmosphere and the next they talk about it going "to the next level". Which is it?

Oh, yes, great deal on those tires..........NOT!
JRG: Yes, the rule reads:
"The spec tires will be required for the affected classes beginning at Sebring in 2012. The tires will be N1 in both tire size combinations (24/64-18 and 27/68-18 for pre-2010 Cup cars, 25/64-18 and 30/68-18 for 2010 and up Cup cars)."
996 set total cost incl shipping from SC to NY : $2,136.46
If you are disgruntled, posting here does nothing.
Writing in response directly to the author of the notice possibly could....just sayin.......
I did.

Here's my breakdown to Philly:
MSPN 35400 24/64-18 tires are $470 each
MSPN 73883 27/68-18 tires are $495 each
State tax: $115.50
County tax: $38.60
Shipping: $40.00
Total cost to ship a set of tires would be $2,124.40
Tires are available in Laurens, SC and would ship by ground the day the order is placed, as long as it is placed before noon.

I believe a spec tire is the proper decision for PCA cup cars and also I'm thankful it's Michelin. This will certainly be a boost in business for Jackson and it would have been nice for a negotiated discount with them? I know most of the other series with the cups don't get discounted tires either. Are the race organizations pocketing cash in the deal?
