Default Dumb oil level question

Searched the forum but didn't come up with an answer: I was checking the oil level in my 996 Cup and was confused on what the dipstick marks were. There are three nodes on the dipstick; where should the oil level be at idle car warmed up to operating temp. Between first and second. Btw second and third or all the way to third node? Also oil level was different depending on what side of the dipstick I looked at.

Thanks for answering a dumb question.

Also, about how much oil is represented by each division of the dipstick?

I have a 00 Cup. I have no idea what the levels are but I had been told to run it at the highest or 3rd node as you have put it. I ran it that way from the day I bought it and still run it that way after a Motorsport rebuild.

Third node is full, half node is about 1/2 quart or so.

The best way to check your oil level is by using a paper towel, folded. Wipe the dipstick, re-insert into running engine. Pull it out and lay it on the paper towel. The oil will show up on the towel better than it does on the dipstick, especially after a recent oil change. I find it very difficult to see the oil on the dipstick itself.

Good info; I'll try it.
