Default 996 cup: strictly race fuel?

I am correct in assuming the 996 cup requires 100 or so octane? Anybody run a 93 street fuel?

Octane boost do anything or stick with refinery formulation?

I was told straight no lead 100 octane. No boost.

98 RON. this is from the 01 cup manual, I run 98 or 100 unleaded race fuel. I would not mess around with any octane boosters or additives, burning down a $25K motor to save a few bucks on gas doesn't equate...

Yes as stated only run the 98 or 100 unleaded fuel. Running higher octane really does nothing for guys like us and the leaded fuels are not good for the motor. The leaded fuels cristalize in the motor on the piston domes and valve train when you shut it down. This leaded fuel is acidic and eventually will pit the domes and valves. When I raced bikes we would fog the motor after every weekend of racing to try and preserve the motor life.

Plus race fuel smells good, another reason not to run street gas in your motor with additive.

from my previous post:

98 octane.. but that's RON which is equal to 94 octane in the usa (PON). Half premium unleaded and half unleaded racing gas (100 Unleaded or more) should be well over the requirement. I ran that in my 04 cup a few times and it seemed fine. Have not tried it in my '08 but it would save a lot of money.

I run 94 unleaded with Powermist octane booster with no problem. Dyno tested and no fuel related issues in the engine which we are refreshing during the off-season. Not all octane booster are the same quality so you should be careful. The goal was mostly to avoid the race fuel storage and transportation. $ savings is nice also...
