Default 996 GT3R brake system

Figured someone on this forum might know this...

What abs system and master cyl setup did the 996 GT3R's run?

996 GT3Rs did not have any ABS and utilized separate front / rear master cylinders with a brake bias adjustment. I believe the components are AP Racing.

Correct. No ABS - dual AP master cylinders - 2623 series - I believe 17.8 mm bore was standard front and rear. Big gold 4 pot brembos front and rear on a 15" front rotor and 14" rear.

Ok, good to know that tilton sized my MC's correctly.... However, does anyone know if there's a porsche abs system that will support GT3R brakes?

Short answer - no. Your best bet is going to be the Bosch Motorsports M4 stand alone abs system. This will probably run about $10-13k by the time you are done. It is fully adjustable and programmable and designed for motorsports usage.

Alternatively, 996 Cup ABS may be adaptable, but may not work entirely correctly and is still not cheap.

Claykos, you are incorrect, any of the Porsche ABS units can be installed and work without issue.

The Porsche 996 Cup ABS is the best choice here...works perfectly and will adapt to your car without issues.

I have installed them in many cars including my GT3R with perfect results and amazing stopping power...

I have the Units in stock, feel free to call Joe, and we can discuss.

Thanks

Geoffrey - this surprises me. But thank you for the info. I assumed given all the ABS issues that people have just going to slicks of different diameters, radically changing suspension setups, etc on many of the modern street Porsches that there would not be very good results adapting one of the factory systems to a highly modded race car (except the 996 cup system).

Hi Rick... I have an early Cup ABS unit and was looking to fit it to my RWD 96TT... I have the wiring diagrams and noticed that there was a couple of wiring connections that are slightly different, can you advise/help me how to make it work, also can I reprogram my ECU to ignore PSM (just like GT2)

Thanks Rick
