Why do you have to change the hubs out? You can buy the pins that locate the wheels, You can either drill out the stock rotors or buy a set up cup rotors that will fit over the pins. Then all you need to the "extension" that screws on to the axle and the nut to tighten it down. Its not that complicated of a system to install. If you can change a tire and a brake rotor you can do it. Just have a big torque wrench to tighten everything up.

You have to change the hub because there is a cone that centers and locates the wheel center that also holds the center lock stud from spinning when you are tightening and removing the wheel nut. The cone locks into groves on the hub on the Cup car hub. There are no groves for locking the cones on the street car hubs. Also, the street car hubs won't locate the 5 drive pins correctly.

The previous fellow is correct, you need 4x cup car hubs ($400 each), 20x drive pins, 4x center pins (threaded stud that acts like the stub axle nut) ($400 each), 4x nuts, 4x lock pins, probably different uprights and bearings because these hubs use a bigger bearing than the street car on some models such as boxter + wheels + misery with AAA + large torque wrench + large socket.

Would replacing the OEM lug bolts with studs and nuts be a happy alternative?

which car are you talking about?
all my pre 2010 GT3's are on studs.
2010 GT3's come with center locks, that's not the same as cup car or RSR and it is a pain to use. find a 2010 GT3 and change the wheels 5x in a weekend, you will hate it.

Sorry. I was asking about the centerlock conversion for a Cayman S. So I would be converting the Cayman S to 5 studs instead from the OEM lug bolts.

yes, if you track a lot, convert to studs with open nuts.
the longer studs will allow you to run different wheels.
very easy to change wheels.

+1

My 6-GT3 came with the regular lug bolts incl the keyed lug bolts
- I tossed the keyed lug bolts and used regular lug bolts to make tire changes faster
- Then went to studs + open nuts like Mooty suggested.

In my garage with air tools, wheel changes are super simple. I'm much happier.

Cheers,

You are correct Mark. I just pulled up my 04 book and there are "R"'s next to all of the bits there. They look similar on the car but knowing Porsche it would have been to easy to make them the same parts.
