Default WTB Electric Power Steering Pump

I'm looking for a good condition used, or extra spare, 997 or 996 electric power steering pump. Thanks

That Toyota piece is heavy, ugly, and requires a separate reservior. The pump Porsche uses in the 997 Cup is the same unit Mercedes uses in one of their cars.

Glen, thanks for the links. I knew a little about some of the alternatives, such as Toyota, Mini and maybe Pontiac G6 pumps. If I'm reading the articles correctly the Toyota has an 80A current draw, needs an electronic input to vary the pump speed and requires a heat exchanger. Maybe I'm making this more complicated than it needs to be, but I know the Porsche pump, made by TRW I think, is compact and simple to install. Keeping it simple is especially important for me.

I certainly have no aversion to saving some money on this, however, and would welcome any comments from someone who has installed the Toyota pump or alternative.

Thanks

Not sure if this is the pump in the 997's, but it is a pump used in mercedes. I got it from James Clay over at bimmerworld about 2 yrs ago (little over $700? new) for my 993. Its what they were running. I understand it doesn't draw as much current as earlier porsche one (fuse at 60A), and it only runs under load. Nice little compact unit.

Thanks Joe

Appreciate the lead. Looks like a sanitary installation in a very well prepared car.

I just ordered the Porsche Motorsport pump (pictured above) from TRG (The Racers Group) in California. It was a little cheaper than from James. Otherwise the same pump...

Peter -- Good deal. If you're looking for fittings, hose, etc, I'd recommend these guys. http://www.woodwardsteering.com/ They were recommended to me back when i got mine and really seemed to know what they're talking about.

Got the pump but it is not the VDO/Mercedes pump as I expected. It is the TRW pump. So now I'm not quite sure how to wire it. There is a small connector with a blue and black wire. But I donp;t think it is a relay like the Mercedes pump.

Does anyone know what to do to enable the pump?

Thanks
