Default Video Systems

Just got delivery of my 2009 Cup car. Any recommendations on video systems (HD preferably) that would work well with the Motec system? I am not a tech guy and so, the simpler the better!

MoTeC has a new video system out that uses a card and high speed download. It will work with your ADL/2 CAN bus to integrate the data onto the video. It is not HD though.

I run ChaseCam and I believe they have HD out now. Not sure how it integrates with Motec....

I will also like to get the Motec video system.
I just need to find a dealer in the USA.

Thanks for the advice to date. I have decided to go with the Chasecam system as I have been advised by Motec that their video recording system will not be released to the public until about June.

Before you go with the Chasecam, check out the POV.1. The POV uses a proprietary digital camera that shoots in 480P. Chasecam is analog. The difference is huge.

Here is my video from Sebring: http://www.driversmeeting.com/pcarroll/blog/5/

The first is a camcorder and the other two are the POV.1

It's also mil-spec. It's built like a tank.

Here's another option:

I'm looking forward to take a closer look at the MoTEC system.
Very convenient if it connects well with the log.

The MoTeC video capture system will connect via CAN to the ADL so you'll have any of the channels available to overlay on the video. It was announced to be available in Feb, but looks like it will be later this year.

Oh, sounds good!
Hope they make playback integrated with the i2.
Would be nice with a little window to see what was actually going on.

It will work the same as the MoTeC chasecam setup today which allows playback in an I2 window. I believe they are looking at better quality camera lens options at the moment.

The problem with all of these systems is they are still limited by the analog composite video standard. No matter how much you spend on the bullet cam, the video will still suck because of the analog composite standard.

That was the big attraction to the POV.1. It is a digital bullet cam. There is no analog in the system. It records progressive scan digital from the CMOS sensor to the SD card. It's more like a digital camcorder with a remote head.

I know it won't automatically sync to my DL1 data on the card, but I can do that on the PC in the analysis software.

Wow. That looks nice. It won't be cheap.

One thing I don't like is it's still a camcorder. So all the buttons and screen are behind you. I can see the POV screen when I am strapped in so I know it's working.

And I wouldn't like putting it out in the air like that. Though in a coupe it woudn't be an issue.

The video specs are very similar. Nice image quality though.

I like the POV system - the nice thing about it is that's it portable still so I can move it to a friends car. I am waiting to see what the smarty cam is like before I buy anything.
