The muffler Demonspeed sells seemed to make 103 at both Laguna and Sonoma. Check with Ed

I’m corresponding with them on axles. I’ll ask about the exhaust. Thanks!

We unfortunately do not make them anymore. Our mounting flanges were a fixed location and orientation which there seemed to be some variability between cars which caused customer dissatisfaction, so we discontinued the exhaust.

Thanks

Ed

Cargraphic sell a muffler kit for 996 cup and its what i have on my car , it works in conjunction with the stock muffler. I am in the UK and have to abide by the noise rules here which are mostly under 105db static.

Still searching for an exhaust system for my car. I was talking to a friend who is a PCA club racer. He mentioned that since 996 Cup parts are getting harder to source, PCA was allowing aftermarket alternatives. He thought there was a company making one such exhaust for the racers. He referred me to someone in PCA who is involved in making the rules but that person didn’t respond to my email. Anyone on here familiar with such a company?

Hey Mark - I recently acquired a 996 Cup and have had sound issues as I drive a lot at Mont Tremblant which has a 92dB restriction. I had the stock center muffler on and had a tail pipe manufactured to put a supertrapp on the back, but was still over sound. There are a couple people there (Canadians that run at Tremblant) that have the Cargraphic pre-muffler, and they pass sound. I'm in the process of getting that as well - its manufactured in Germany and there is a wait on build as they just arent sitting on a shelf as an inventory item. I guess its like $2500 which is fine and not crazy expensive. I can try to get some more info if you wish. Just let me know. Good luck. Erik

Erik, that is exactly the kind of thing I’m looking for. Please let me know more details when you can! Thanks so much.

Because of the way it mounts, we had as many complaints as compliments for the exhaust. . Customers ended up with tail pipes that did not come out even and our mounting was not as forgiving as the factory was.

Either the faces of the mounting flanges on the headers were not consistent from the factory originally or it did not take much of a tweak for the flange to get bent.

Thanks

Ed

My new axles from Demon Speed arrived at the shop so I am looking forward to doing some more learning in the newly acquired 6 Cup this fall. My shop guy Irish Mike is researching some muffler options to go along with some of the good suggestions in this thread.

I thought I’d add to this thread with an off topic rather than create a new one. I don’t have any plans to race this car with PCA so am not concerned about modifying it in any way that would disqualify me. For now while I’m learning it, I plan to do only DE’s. Having said that, are there any suspension or aero mods that can be done to improve what Porsche has done in the factory setup which would allow me to improve my lap times? Many of my track day colleagues are running very fast newer GT cars or Clubsports and I want to do everything possible to be competitive. Not to win any DE’s but to just have fun running similar times. I understand that in the hands of a top pro no mods would be needed, but I’m paid to fix teeth, not post low lap times. LOL.

Thanks to all that have contributed to this thread. I’m excited to get some laps in at Sebring this fall and winter!

Brand new Pirellis are a good starting point for lowering your lap times

As luck would have it, the seller passed along a brand new set of Pirellis on the spare set of wheels!

My advice is to spend your money on seat time, not mods. In the 4 years I have owned mine I have improved my lap time by 10 seconds and I sincerely doubt any mods would have achieved that sort of improvement. The 996 cup out of the box is a very quick car, even when it’s close to 20 years old. With tyres that aren’t completely shot - don’t have to be stickers necessarily, but they do help - and a good set up, the 996 is faster than pretty much any well driven 991 and 992 GT car (likely excluding the new GT3RS) on a 2 minute lap. I have a lot of fun blowing away half million $ cars (AU) in my 75K 996 cup. And you get to do it with no electronic assistance. Very rewarding cars to drive on the limit!
