I have 2 996 cup cars and will probably start racing one of them next year, after going thru 997.1, 997.2, 991.1, 991.2, and 991GT3R ownership. Other than the 3R - the 996 is the most fun to drive.
RSRRacer, couldnt agree with you more. I also have two 996 cups that I race one and will eventually race the other in some vintage races out west.
They are a blast to drive and can still keep up with the 981's with all the nannies.

Having raced both last year, the 996 cup is a bit faster than a 981 Clubsport, assuming equal drivers. It’s really the weight difference as the Clubsports are quite portly at 3100lbs in PCA.
996 cup is definitely quicker than the 981 CS all things being equal. CS is more of a stripped out road car. despite people saying the 6 is not a “real race car” given it shares so much with the road going 996 GT3, I beg to differ.

i have a 981CS MR and a 996cup. The main difference in performance because of weight as the 6cup is several hundred pounds lighter. If you could get a CS to 2800lbs w/driver, which would be really hard to do, it would smoke a 6cup.

I was only comparing to the base CS. MR has a bit more power and is 100 lbs or so lighter, yes? No question, the CS is more sophisticated, seemingly much better under brakes and I would guess far easier to extract the lap time from? I have not had the pleasure of driving one but regularly share the track with a local car. I would love one in my garage along side the 6 cup!
Anyway, I digress. This 996 cup seems like a great proposition given the maintenance completed. GLWS to the OP
They are truly wonder cars! A blast to drive! Especially if your fond of 3 pedals and a manual (last year of the H pattern) A real bargain right now if you can find a good one . I believe they are at rock bottom in value
but perhaps taking off soon!
Yeah. They are amazing. I owned two, raced both and sold them. I might buy one again. They are cheap to buy but need a complete overhaul if you want to race them reliably and fast. That’s pretty costly. But I am tempted to do it again
I think it depends on the individual cars. Not unusual to see them with 30, 40, 50,000 kms on them after many years of competition. Most of the cars in Australia have less than 15,000 with a much shorter competitive life.
