I'll also put the bare wheels on my balancer sometimes and just take a scotch-brite pad to the beaded area to remove any excess gunk that has gathered.
That plus some hair spray or a quick dry mounting paste helped a lot.

I have used the old starting fluid trick on a trailer tire that we had to change in a Walmart parking lot on Sunday night. That was exciting. Broke the bead by driving over the edge of the tire with the truck, the pried off the tire. Mounting was pretty easy and starting fluid to set the bead. Probably about 1.5 hours start to finish including buying the supplies. Beat sleeping the night there and getting it changed in the morning.
Thanks
Ed

My tire guy uses a spray bottle filled with alcohol (rubbing, not vodka) and liberally sprays both the tire and wheel bead just prior to mounting. Sometime is still takes upward of 90psi to seat the bead.
