Default Cost to mount tires

What is the going rate to mount a tire, or more specifically (if it makes any difference), a Pirelli slick? I am sure there are regional differences but I am curious what others pay.

I usually pay $100-120 for mount and balance for the Pirelli DH's.

I just paid $861 to mount 3 sets of Pirelli DHs. A month ago I paid $60 to mount one tire. I need to find a cheaper alternative. I recall at the track I paid maybe $25/tire?

I think I paid $30 per tire at the track this year.

Have you had tires mounted outside of the track? I am not happy with how much it costs to mount a tire. Nobody really owes me any favors but I think I have paid too much.

Yes, and it was about the same cost. Where are you located?

Central Illinois. The $60 was at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet and the $861 ($71/tire) was at my local Porsche dealer.

In SoCal there’s a few shop that only deal with track tires and slicks, and their prices are usually 15-20 a tire. I wouldn’t trust these prices if I didn’t know that they deal with slicks and expensive wheels most of the time.

Sometimes your shop will do this for cheap money. I ended up buying a tire changer and balancer. Total cost was ~$2k. Pays for itself in ~ 3 years...

I'd gladly invest a couple grand to be able to mount and balance my own tires. I haven't come across the equipment to do so for $2k, however.

Craigslist and patience are your friend! I got some great deals - a Corghi tire balancer that will run off of 12V if I wanted, and a nice Hunter 3250. No problems mounting Pirelli slicks, Nitto's, etc.

That said, another motivator was having 'well meaning' folks destroy rims - happened to many times...

I just checked on eBay and, actually, there are many tire changer and balancer combos for under $2k! I haven't mounted tire since I was in high school so I'd need to do some research to make sure it was suitable for my purposes.

Brand new on ebay $1499 .. all day long and decent quality... pirellis and S8m Michelins can be a struggle to bead so dont skimp out when it comes to getting a bead blaster and good tire lube and plastic duck heads to protect your wheels
