Another dumb 991.2 cup question
Ok going from 5 lug to center lock again.
Is PMNA the only place to buy the wheel sockets to remove the wheels? If not, where do you go? RPxress doesnt carry them anymore.
Also what are most of you using for impact wrenches?
Understanding that each side has different direction for tightening/loosening the wheels and probably need 2 wrenches 1 for each side.

Not a 991 but I use a Milwaukee Fuel Lithium impact gun for my 996. It has two modes, low and high. High is 800+ Nm. I use the high setting and have never had an issue breaking the nut with 460 Nm of torque. As for torquing down the nuts with a wrench, don’t many torque wrenches have the ability to change the direction?

The shop that supported my 997 and 991Cup always used an air based impact wrench. When tightening, it was a 2 man job unless you had real wheel chocks to keep the car stable. I forget the amount of torque required for tightening but it was huge. I bought a spare lug socket for my 997 from PMNA, it was easy to source with a few other parts.

Do not put 800Nm on your impact guns! 500-520Nm is the spec. If you need more torque to loosen, re-grease the threads before reinstalling your wheels.
Socket is the same as the CGT and 997 (Cup all the way up to RSR) piece. 997.361.169.9A (there are other part numbers real difference is the inscription...)

Questions are never dumb:
- Intersol Cordless W7150 ( these are nice to have when you are putting on tie down hooks after a race and air gun is still at the pits)
- Paoli air impacts are nice and they offer 991 sockets if budget is not an issue.
- Snap On QC4R600A 3/4 Drive Torque Wrench 120-600lbs Only one as you can change directions

Problem with the wheel sockets is that they are 1". Even a Milwaukee Fuel 3/4" 18V that is good for 800 Ft lbs will not budge the nut when you have to use and adaptor to 1". An impact loses all its power with the slop in the adaptor that absorbs the power. That is why we use a 1" Paoli or Ingersol Rand air gun. For installing we use an electric gun then torque down.

Have struggled with the 991 sockets being 1" - just as Bob outlined above the big problem with trying to use anything other than an air gun that is setup for 1" is you don't get the torque you need as it's wasted. When the air gun isn't available, I use a big breaker bar to remove, and then the same bar to snug on - torque from there to spec (by hand in the shop).
Big difference from the 997's socket for sure. But not that bad once you've got all of the tools for it. My advice would be don't use adaptors if possible.

We use the socket and tighten by hand and then use torque wrench for final go with wheel chocks at both ends of car as direction is different left to right. Ingersoll Rand 1” is what we have and works well for loosening. Apply the paste sparingly. The nuts are disposable. Lucky to last whole season. Listen to viper Bob as he’s done this a few times. There is no electric option for this.

What are people using for anti seize? I have been using copper grease but it’s a real mess to apply by hand so something with a brush type applicator would be useful. I have seen professional race teams using a product like this but never got close enough to ask what it was.

right! I’ve got enough copper grease on my clothing in the past 12 months since owning a cup car. There must be a better solution...
