Default Who would you trust in California for a gearbox diagnosis??

Have a friend with possibly a bad Differential Carrier bearing. Possibly bad pinion. But needs it diagnosed and fixed.

Is it howling? If so, he needs it fixed no matter what the diagnosis or he is going to need to buy a new ring and pinion. He might already need one.

we just had our gearbox done at Bill Rader Motorsports in Las Vegas. Shipping was in a cooler and cost 300 ish bucks each way with California overnight from the bay area and we are very happy with the outcome.
either way needs to be torn down and inspected

I agree. At this point if it is a diff carrier bearing that is not necessarily a tranny out ordeal. I think he needs to know if he is pulling his tranny and getting it rebuilt or just some carrier bearings replaced.

If he wants to have it diagnosed and fixed on site, I would take it to 911 Design in Montclair.

Bill Rader is great but you need to find someone who doesn't do their own gearboxes in house.

+ 1 for both Loren Beggs at 911 Design, as well as for Bill Rader at Bill Rader Motorsports. Bill has done all my transmission work over the years.

California Motor Sports (CMS) in Lake Havasu City is a recommended shop by Matt at Guard. They will be doing a 3.89 R&P and taller 6th gear install on my 997.1 RS in the near future. While they are in the transaxle, seemed like a good time to get my diff working properly by Guard (the works including 40/60 ramps). Oh well, while the transaxle is out, makes sense to replace all the clutch components and the RMS. Never ends, does it?

If you wanted to work with CMS Duane at Vision would be a good choice. He does diff installs in house, but has them do major work like ring and pinion set up.
