Default Coolant fitting failure on 997 cup?

Hello I am new cup car owner and I was wondering if the 997 cup cars are prone to the glue letting go on the coolant fittings like the street 997 GT3's. Do you guys weld or pin the lines like many of the street gt3 owners?

Thanks!

George

I have heard of it happening on cup cars. Probably not as talked about given they aren’t as common as the street cars but it definitely happens.

I had mine welded last time the engine was out. My mechanic thought it was a waste of time, but I didn't want to be caught "flat-footed" with some change in the PCA rules. Technically for DEs in some regions, metzler engined cars (GT3, turbo, GT2, etc.) need to be pinned or welded. I was not interested in having a debate with scrutineering just before track time or a race. Below is one of the multiple pipes:

Thanks for the info. Yeah my thought was it's the same block, so it would make sense. I pinned my 2010 GT3 and felt better on track knowing it wouldn't happen. Could be very bad for you and anyone right behind.

Yes, it can happen on these. Same block.

We have a nice product from Torque Solutions for the water pipes to replace the factory ones. They are easier to pin and weld into place.

Thanks

I use that Torque Solutions kit when we do the welding on all the affected cars.

Yes, coolant pipe fittings do fail on Cup cars. Seen it first hand.

PMNA does not weld or pin during rebuilds, but they remove and re-glue the fittings using 3M Scotch Weld 1838 -- a two-part epoxy that is green. They told me that there have been no reported failures that they're aware of after this method has been used.
