I totally agree with you. I recently got a chance to drive BGB's Cayman R shop car. It's got the stock engine in it with a PDK. For a DE driver and track day junkie, I find it hard to imagine the need for much more. While a 3.4l powered Cayman has proven to be a somewhat inadequate racecar, I think that for the recreational track driver and back road barn stormer, the Cayman is pretty much right on the money as delivered.

I liken it to a GT3 street car versus a GT# Cup. They are apples and oranges. These engine swapped Caymans are what I call Cayman Cups. Some people are going to do this to their street car, but IMO the place where it's really relevant and useful is when you want to race the car.
