Default Oil Change

I just traded in my 2011 911 for a 2018 Cayman. Do you access the oil filter and drain plug from under the car? What size wrench is used for the oil filter?

Cayman <> Cayenne. Moving your post to the Cayman forum.

Changing the oil yourself does not effect the warranty.

Couple of ways to approach this. Visit the local Porsche dealer and talk to a service tech. I have found over the years they are pretty helpful. They can't make you a professional tech but they can help you do proper servicing.

Or at the dealer buy a spare oil filter housing and then take it to an autoparts store and try filter wrenches until you find one that fits.

Early in my Boxster ownership I bought a 2nd filter housing to have just in case the one on the engine got damaged.

What I'd do is use the other one -- it was clean of course -- and then the used one I'd clean up later and have ready to next time. So every time I changed the oil I alternated between the two housings.

At your favorite autoparts store ask if you can buy a number of different oil filter wrenches to try with the understanding you can bring the ones that don't fit back for a full credit.

You want to be sure you have all the necessary parts for an oil/filter service. Proper amount of oil. New filter element. If the housing requires o-ring(s) (and I think it does, at least the one on my Boxster and Turbo does) you want these. New oil drain plug *sealing* ring.

I bought a few spare sealing rings along with a spare oil drain plug to have just in case.

When I bought a new filter element at the Porsche dealer parts counter I'd get the element with the o-ring inside the box and a new sealing ring taped to the outside of the box.

The last I heard the DFI engines have a one hour drain time. The new Cayman (and Boxster) 4-cylinder engines I don't know what the drain time is for those engines. Ask the tech.

You can get the oil filter wrench socket from Suncoast Parts. Also the filter kit.
