I have now seen two posts about a newer part number than 948 602 104 09 and I just found it listed as 948 602 104 20, maybe they skipped revisions all they way to .20 as it is the end all Valhalla coil for the Cayenne?? I've also got some Ocean front property in the Mohave desert to sell, anyone interested??? Sonnen does still list both coils but the .20 is $1.50 more.

Word. I'm as guilty as the next with daftness.

Re: part numbers. I searched around and it appears only the official porshe part has the .20. So maybe Porsche is just rebranding the 09.

Both the 09 and 20 are Porsche part numbers, and the 20 is the next Porsche parts number succession following the 09. Unlikely they would re-number them unless an actual change had been made to the part. Coils are made by Beru. I have a "Porsche" spare of each part number, so I'll have to inspect them and see if there are any obvious differences.

I ask this because I am pretty sure I have seen VW change number Because they changed the vendor it was outsourced from. To compound the issue, the forums are full of stories of a coil failure and the dealer changes 1 or 2 coils. So who wants to pull everything off and look at EACH coil....lol.

I know that between the .05 coils I removed and the .09 coils I just installed they were both Beru manufacture and looked identical. They both had the same Beru part # so at least for those revisions Beru never changed their part numbers.

I just had mine all apart for valve cover gaskets. Plugs look pretty good, nice square corners on the center electrodes, not much noticeable wear, not wet. No idea how many miles are on them. A few had oil on the threads, but it was from failed valve cover seals, not coming from the cylinders themselves. One was so full of oil (#6) that I vacuumed it out before removing the plug to keep it from pooling in the cylinder. ALL coil packs had "the crack", all were Beru version number .03 none showed signs of arcing. I've got no codes for anything. Google says that while Cayenne owners replace all coil packs when first one cracks, the rest of the world either epoxies or ignores the crack. I spoke to a buddy of mine who is an EE and he suggested kapton tape just-in-case. I wrapped each coil pack with two layers of kapton in the cracked area (see pic) and reinstalled. Car is still running great, no codes. At the first sign of trouble with any of them, I'll replace all, but the crack doesn't seem to be an issue at least on this generation of coil. Did the .01 coils always arc once cracked?

Is it me or does the ceramic around the electrode look cracked on the 3rd plug in the second picture? I probably would have replaced those plugs if it were me since they are cheap and it is easy piece of mind. I have had old plugs lose chunks of ceramic into an expensive engine before and I didn't like the way that made me feel!

Goddamn it..... LOL

I just looked at the original picture rather that the resized one that I posted and it doesn't look like a crack as much, I think it's mostly an artifact from the resizing. But now, I'm paranoid.

I've actually never had an electrode lose a chunk, so I'm going to drink a beer and try to forget your comment. I figured that I'll probably be in there again soon-enough and can swap them out then. I drove around all day today with no burning oil smells. Love my new gaskets. Just when I thought I couldn't love the Cayenne more, I love her even more.

Those plugs look like crap. Hard to tell if that 3rd one has cracks or if a V shaped chunk of carbon fouling fell off.
New plugs and coil packs are about $300 from Pelican. Considering the theory of fuel washed cylinders...cheap insurance imo.

Also, the Bosch FGR6KQE is for the normally aspirated S engine. If you're working on the Turbo listed in your signature, those are the wrong plugs. The Turbo plugs are a completely different style with a single prong.

Aha! Now I've got a good excuse to go back in. What plugs do you guys like for the turbo? AutoHausAZ shows 10 choices, Pelican shows 6. I see a complete coils/plugs kit from ECS (NGK/Beru), but don't see one at Pelican.

I've got the seal ordered for the driver's side pressure tube to the intercooler. I discovered that the tube was caked with oil/dirt when I had the air filters off to get the valve covers out. Seal arrives tomorrow. If the hood's open anyway, I'd might as well swap the plugs.

(8) coils from Pelican = $284
(8) coils & (8) NGK plugs from ECS= $286
(8) coils from AutoHausAZ = $227 and I can get any brand of plug. I think I'll go with the oe Beru 14 F-6 ($11.88/ea) unless I hear differently in the next hour or so.

All three vendors are selling Beru, all three are giving free shipping.

FYI, AutoHausAZ is saying that their current rev of the Beru coil is: 21

I have NGK's in my CTT and most other machines. They have always performed well for me.

That's a great price from ECS. The S version of the kit is far more expensive at $307.00 (about what I paid from Pelican) but that kit contains Bosch plugs. For some odd reason the turbo kit comes with really cheap NGK plugs which only cost $23 for 8. I would upgrade to something better than that for a turbo.

I use NGK Iridium plugs in my motorcycles (including the turbos) with no issues. For the P cars, I stick with Bosch.

RMEuropean.com is almost always my go-to place after shopping around. In addition to being price competitive (or best), I find that in CA, the free ground shipping ends up actually being next-day shipping. Not sure, but I think they do it by actually distributing the parts from a place here in the SF Bay Area.

When I did my own engine PPI (compression test, borescope, plugs + coils inspection) on my '04 S, I ended up keeping the .03-.05 series coils which looked perfect, with no cracks anywhere, but replaced all plugs with the Bosch for $4.54 a piece (these are the 4-electrode plugs for the S, not the single-electrode ones for the turbo).

So you might do a quick check on RMEuropean.com, especially if you might benefit from fast shipping.
