Default Best snow tires for 2009 Cayenne?

I have 18" winter rims and need new snow tires and wondered if anyone could recommend the best option or two?

I'm in Toronto and don't go out of the city much so it's more for ice rather than deep snow.

Thanks in advance. Dave McMillan

Hi Dave, welcome to Rennlist. Somehow you posted to the wrong forum.. your '09 is what's called a 957 in Porsche enthusiast speak. I'll move your thread to the correct place.

As far as snows - Porsche recommends Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow - I have them and have no complaints.. there are certainly other options out there though..

Welcome!
We use 255/55/18 - Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8s. Many features but what I like best is the design of their studs which are shaped like a parallelogram. The corner bites into the ice and the shoulders provide stability.

Default Pirelli winter

I believe Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow has been superseded and replaced with Pirelli Scorpion Winter. I have those and they are an excellent Ice tire, but not the best in deep snow. The Winters have the cushiest ride ever on the 955.

For ice, hands down Hakkapelitta 8 SUV or 9 SUV. I think you can only get them at Kal tire here in Canada. I have the 8 SUV on my third winter and still years of tread left.

I have an '09 Cayenne S and use the Bridgestone Blizzaks for driving in the mountains. More snow than ice, and rarely deep snow -- but they've been great so far.

+1 on the Pirellis. They are not the best tire in deep snow, but on ice and anything up to about 6 inches, they are great. I have also heard great things about the Nokians.
Tires that are great in deep snow can be really noisy on the highway and aren't that great on ice.

FWIW, I was running Continental DWSs in 8 degree weather with ice and 6+ inches of snow last weekend and they actually did really well considering that they are an all-season tire.

Cheers,
TomF

Thanks all for your help.

BTW, I had done a quick search before I posted [like a newbie] but when I went through the forum more thoroughly I found an earlier discussion about this and combined with the info there and your feedback I have ordered the Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow [since I didn't look at Kal's I didn't see the Hakkapelitta's].

Thanks again for the advice. Looking forward to being able to get more out of my manual GTS again! Dave.
