Kelly Moss has their car for sale that they did this very thing with.... KellyMoss.com

I ran into a guy that did it in a half *** way at the Glen, and had a lot of trouble with the electronics.

Deman Motorsport in Nyack, NY (very close to you) has done several conversions. He uses a brand new 3.4l 996 engine from Porsche, a set of GHL headers/exhaust, and all of the factory 996 motronics software. 845-727-3070

If you decide to do this conversion take note that the wiring harness is different for a 3.4l vs a 3.6l motor. The 3.4 wiring harness is compatible with the 2.5/2.7.3.2l Boxster wiring harness (ie you don't have to change the wiring harness to do the motor swap...just swap out the Boxster ECU for the 996 unit and off you go). If you go the 3.6l route, you have 2 options: 1) kludge up some sort of modification to the harness (in which case you will have to locate the proper connectors) or 2) swap out the harness altogether. Swapping the wiring harness might not be too bad (the termination points should be the same from the doors forward) but expect to have to get creative from the doors back.
