I tried a Powerchip (now at http://www.powerchipgroup.com ) in my 3.2 Carrera. There was a noticeable improvement but there was some backfiring (or at least that is how it sounded) when I backed off suddenly from high revs, so I returned the chip for a refund. If it were not for the backfire problem I would definitely have kept it. You may have better luck.

For the price of a chip, you could also get a programmable piggy back computer such as Unichip http://www.dastek.co.za/ (search archives for Rennlisters' experiences). The cost is the same as a chip and includes dyno time during which the timing and fuel maps are customised to your own car. You can also take it with you to your next car - it is not specific to a particular car, unlike normal plug-in chips.

any suggestions for a 3.6 964 motor? I know the same basics apply but would love to hear some feedback from those that have used these products.

Thanks!

Hi Rob:

964's really respond well to good chip tuning with worthwhile increases in throttle response and mid-range torque.

We do our own here in many variations and I'd simply caution you that if you decide to install one, be sure that the stock rev limiter is retained unless the rod bolts, valve springs and valve spring retainers have been upgraded.

Steve... I tried to check out your website but to no avail... I'll try again later. What do you guys typically charge for the chip and what should I expect for gains?
