Post Need help transplanting 996 motor into Boxter

I'm looking for advice on installing a 996 motor into a Boxter. I understand someone out there is doing it and may have worked out the bugs. Any advice or contacts would be greatly appreciated. Vince Suddard 302.740.7700

Vince!

I got my copy of "911 & Porsche World" December issue in my mail a few days ago. It has a 5 page article of a Boxter 1998 being equipt with a 996 motor! Pictures and all.

I, by the way, lived in Newark for a year (1993-1994) and worked for Tyco. Had a lot of fun and got 5 speeding tickets in my IROC-Z

Yours sincerely,
Patrik, 911 Turbo 1991

Call RUF or Gemballa. They have both done it. I am thinking of getting another porsche and doing the same thing. Dan at BY DESIGN can also do it and is really good. CA

Hi, there is a Porsche shop in Bellevue, Washington called Squire's Autowerke that has done multiple 996/Boxter conversions. He may be a resource for your questions.

This swap isn't like putting a 3.2 in a 914-6.
I watched Andial but one together, and to do it right is a lot of time and labor by master mechanics. If anybody says it's easy
better check the work they have done.

Go to FVD-usa.com
They have worked out a complete kit. Including the correctly modified DME. These guys have just launched there US catalog and are based at GULF PERFORMANCE in Pompano FL. I was helping them to try and sell some 996 crate engines they purchased at special pricing. You can roll your 2.5 Boxster in and come out with a new fully warrantied 3.4 for around 13,000. Tell them Rich McSweeney sent you. They work on my 928s4. Good luck!!!

Autofarm in the UK have successfully transplanted a 996 engine into a Boxster using second hand engine and a German conversion kit.

The mechanic who perfomed the surgery maintains my own 964 RS, his name is Andy.

The only downside is the gearing which is a bit tall, a 6 speed box is really neededweb page
