Red face Fastest Turbo?

'87 951 APE chip. I am wishing to get a quick car that is reliable. I am shooting for 300ish rwhp, but have low end torque, quick spool turbo as my primary objective. i'd rather have 5 sec 0-60, 135mph car than 6 sec 0-60, 165mph car. I am not looking for a 400hp crusher that eats lots of money and threatens components such as head gasket. So i think i have decided, 1. GURU chip, 2. New Turbo, 3. Test Pipe. 4. learn to drive : )

I have looked at Lindsey, Powerhaus, Windward, etc. for turbos, but really don't know how to compare the different turbos from different manufacturors and how that compares to my stock turbo.

What is the fastest spooling turbo available? Does anyone have one they really really like and recommend?

Thanks

If you want a 5 second 0-60...just throw in chips and the test pipe and you should be good to go.

If not at 5 seconds you'll be real close...

If that's not enough throw in Guru Stage 2 MAP sensor kit or a MAF of somesort...

If that's still not enough, then, ok, do turbo and injectors...

You might want to post this in the 944 turbo forum instead. Some of those guys read this forum too, but you'd get better coverage in there. I'm still running to stock K26/6 so I'm not much help here. I'd suggest you call Dave at Lindsey racing (www.lindseyracing.com) and ask him about their Sport and Street turbo lines.

No affiliation with Lindsey - just had really good luck with them.

Nothing dramatic and certainly nothing greater than a 10% change.
It is the single best [and cheapest] mod you will ever make.

Blueman33, I have a one off Turbo that David at Powerhaus made for me. Minimal lag and tires that break loose at 80 mph. I honestly need different gears to harness all this power. The dyno was so unbelievable that he just had one made for his car as well. Call him as I'm not sure what it is. Think it's a custom K29. Good luck.

Blueman,

I would check out the Vitesse MAF/turbo kit. 325 rwhp for $2500 is one of the better kit prices out there. The only benefit over your listed chip, turbo, pipe, is that you would have a bit more flexibility with a MAF based system. If you want to stick with Guru (can't blame you for that) then check out there MAP kit and make sure you get Danno's advise on a turbo so he can match everything up for you.

I would also post on the 944 turbo forum as Dwayne stated - you'll probably get more responses.

Call Lindsey racing. stay away from any k29 type .. that is way to big for a 2.5. Also garret technology is far superior to KKK.

944turbo is right. I should've looked closer at what size motor you were putting the turbo on. The K29 is way too big for a 2.5

How is a garret better than kkk. What's the difference between the two?

DFASTEST951,

Hi, I met you when you dyno'd your car in Scottsdale. David was there along with a couple of your friends. Yours was the black one right? Awesome car! I was testing my little 944-Spec race car.

The Technodyne BB turbo's are way more effecient. On my little 2.5 ltr 951 I went from a quickspool K27DR=280WHP to a K27#8=320WHP to a Technodyne ballbearing turbo=400WHP. That is with a 2.5 ltr with a o-ringed head, bigger injectors, piggyback, maf, test pipe running race gas. We did the garrett mod well over a year ago. The BB has quicker response than the quick spool plus 120WHP more on top.

Technodyne has a list price of $8000??? check out their website www.technodyneracing.com for the 400WHP kit. My turbo is listed under article about customers car)
If you don't want to spend that much I'd go with Guru Racing. Dan is very helpful and his kits are bolt-on!
Then there is the other end of the spectrum like our friend from LV. That thing makes 480WHP shooo... but how much $$$$$ in the motor???. If I had the money I would : )
I thought that car was going to be raffled off?

Hey Pau, how are you? Good to hear from you. David told me the Garret's don't fit in the tight spaces as well and they lack bottom end compared to my custom K29, but after what you wrote I will ask him about it. Yes, I am about to give the car to charity and they are going to raffle it off. I'll announce it officially here when it happens. I'm bummed but it's for a great cause. Great to hear from you, take care.

The Garrett GT dual ball bearing turbo isn't a bolt on. It requires alot of fab work. It is reliable though.

Please let me know when it is going up for raffle!!!!

DFASTEST,

If the charity organization wants to sell some tickets, make sure you/they post an announcement on Rennlist. I know I'd buy a ticket.

OK, now that the word is kind of out, I'm working the deal with the Charity to allow me to first let everyone here on the Rennlist know about the car first as I really have never met a better bunch of people who really care about our P-cars. I'm afraid someone will win it run it into the ground or worse, wrap it and themselves around a tree. Also, I'm debating that first notifying all Rennlisters would reduce advertising costs. It's taking a long time but it's for a great cause that's directly related to me and my family. One other tidbit. The car will also come with a one year warranty from Powerhaus.
