Default GT3 oil pump

I viewed a GT3 oil pump for the first time yesterday and it looked like a really nice piece.

It has 2 scavenge pumps which I really like. One picks up in the usual central spot the other just behind the pressure pump.

Should fit with a little machining into an early case.

Anyone used this pump?

We've used lots of them,....

Its a nice upgrade for all 3.6's and less $$$ than the 930 Turbo one.

Any issues with installation in an early case other than the obvious machining of the bearing web and plugging of the bypass gallery?

I want to use in a short stroke (89 X 66) 2.5 engine with Carrillo rods. Early 2 liter aluminum case.

No problems.

As you know, the case must be clearanced and the bypass modification performed, but thats it.

Just make sure that the scavenge plumbing on the car is big enough; -16 is minimum.

Wow, -16 is 1", isn't thermostat and oil cooler the limiting factor. System I have is -12, may not be big enough.

I just figured you probably mean -16 on the suction side of the pressure pump, I am -16 there.

Have used it twice, very nice upgrade and basically plug and play, just the bit of clearancing Steve refers to.

If you have -16 on the suction/scavenge side, you are OK.

In my GT2 we just put a GT3RS oil pump - it may be the same - not sure. But it looked very cool and works great...

Hey Norm- I also got mine from EBS, but prices have come down since then (don't you hate that?), as they are available through the dealers, since it is now a US street car part (2004 GT3, plus all 996 GT2, and all 996 Turbo with X50, though not plain Turbos).

How much $$$ are you paying? What is dealer list?

Is it part number 996.107.007.93?

Dealer list is now around $685. EBS still has them listed at $795, I picked up a couple from them when they had a special, which was not as special as I thought. I was expecting these to get more expensive on the exchange rate with the Euro, but PCNA has the currency hedged out to around 2007, which is why the dealer has them all beat now.

Could be worse, dealer list was around $2400 til they started getting serious about carrying these, which is why they were a good deal from EBS or Porsche Motorsport.

Your part number 996.107.007.93 is correct.

No, sorry, everything is totally different. Different engine, different genes, different everything. The 996 Carrera motor is an evolution of the Boxster engine, which is a flat-bottomed all-new-for-Boxster-and-996 design. Optimized for cost, its parts and design share almost nothing with the 996 GT2, GT3, & Turbo engines that evolved from the GT1 that evolved using the 993 bottom end, plus water cooling and 4-valve heads on top the old faithful bottom end that holds this oil pump now.

There is an "oil kit" from PMNA that people were installing for awhile when the 996 was young, but we really don't hear people having oil pressure problems with the standard 996 in driver ed, or even in GrandAm Cup for that matter.
