Default best/first upgrades from stock

Question from a newbie here

I eventually would like something around 300 hp - or just enough to adequately smoke these mustangs and camaros. I have a 86 951 - stock and want to work in a steady direction without having to back up -ie rebuying a part d/t another unmatching new upgrade. Also I am trying not to put more than $2000 in PERFORMANCE upgrades into this car. Here are a subjective list of things I am willing to purchase for the car and I would like to know IN WHAT ORDER should I purchase/install them. I dont want to buy this or that then have to buy another chip to tie in the new upgrades. Also will this net me 300 hp?

1- guru chips
2- 3" exhaust/test pipe
3- larger fuel injectors
4- wastegate/boostcontroller
5- new catalytic
6- new fly wheel?

thanks for any info

Try cross posting this on the 951 site and you will get a much faster responce. I think you will have to go to a MAP/MAF system and an AF guage earily on to be able to protect the engine during these changes. I want to do the same thing to my 87 951 with a new rebuilt engine. I have been told by many that one of the first things needed is a new AF guage because these changes can cause a real danger to the motors. A drop in the AF ratio under a hard pull can cause bad karma for our motors. I will not get any system which will not allow me to program and datalogging capabilities. I understand we can get 300 hP with these mods and our turbo. To go beyond this power we need to increase the turbo also. This is from watching the postings on the 944 turbo site. Good luck, as I said I want the same. I am really interested in as broad of a power band as I can get. I am in more interested in a broad band and good reliability than max power.

You don't need #3,4,5,6

Buy a set of Guru chips, (available in 8 and 9 version - 15 PSI or 18 PSI of boost) and a Bursch testpipe from www.gpr.com. Then you have to shim the wastegate (please ask Guru Racing) and you are all set. Have fun!

A Porsche is not designed for 1/4 mile....if you want to "smoke" the Mustangs and Camaros the best bet is to either run them in the canyons after using your money for suspension mods or buy a V-TEc and dust them in the 1/4 with newer technology.

i don't think he said anything of a 1/4 mile, just able to beat them. btw, stock mustangs shouldn't be problem. i never lost to one in stock trim, but only like 3 races so...maybe just didn't run into a good driver... i would think a good start would be a boost controller, MAF, guru chips. hope that helps.

I don't know what kind of racing you are doing but I would avoid standing starts. Once you do a clutch on one of these cars you'll know why. I think book for a 951 clutch is something like 16 hours.

Chips, they increase boost and remap fuel. It would be hard to beat Cameros from a stoplight it takes time for the turbo to wind up.

I whole-heartedly agree with volpenyc above!!! Get involved in a DE and you will soon realize that your car is MUCH better than you right now. After your ability catches up, then go for a few mods. At that time, start with wheels & tires and then move to suspension.
