Default "New" V6 Turbo Engine

what the hell is this "new" 3.0L V6? Same as the POS Audi?

"That’s why the new Panamera S and the new Panamera 4S now come equipped with a newly developed 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine."

why this "new" engine? Why not turbo charge the 3.8L V6?

Separately my Salesman just returned from training in Park city. Said it almost feels faster than the GTS at the low end.

Thanks Kosmo for this very good topic.
I hope we will have plenty of answer.
I want to drive one of this car, and try to get the feel and express the difference with the V8.

..May be it a flat 6, ..that have been bent a little bit, ..out from the production of the 911 Turbos !

Drove one today. Didn't get to go far and it only had 22 miles on it, but it seemed very responsive. Not up to my 997.2 S, but not bad.

In 14, the NA v8 will only be in the GTS. The v6 turbo will be the new "S". So we have e-hybrid, na v6 panamera, v6 turbo panamera s, v8 gts, v8 turbo.

I agree, Porsche thinks 4S with 3.8 v6.0 will beat normally aspirated gts, which is a symbolic No No for them!

No, never drove the V-8. Just have my '09 997.2 S Cab for comparison. Thinking of switching since the wife doesn't like riding with the top down. However, today was beautiful and I went for a top down ride alone. Switch is no longer in consideration.

the new v6 turbo is very nice. As expected its got a lot of torque lower in the rev range and lag is minimal, however I still prefer the smooth delivery and sound of the V8. WE all know that CAFE standards are driving this, but still I will miss the big old V8. I bet the Cayenne is next.

My local dealer invited me for a burn in the new GTS. Excellent grip & acceleration, tight, great sound, redlines a tad higher vs my P4S'10 in sport plus, but no epiphany. I was informed the 2.9999999 liter engine was introduced to counter the 3.0 liter displacement tax in China. Sounds like a BS excuse to make the engine yet another option. I can't envision this conversation ever... "Give me the POS Audi, Jim, the Porsche tax is just way too heavy..."

I have a 2012 Panny 4S along with a few 911's. I recently drove the new V6 S and it feels as fast, but not as torque ridden as the V8. I am keeping mine.

Interesting how will the turbo v6, nat. aspirated v8 and turbo v8 all have relatively similar fuel economy ratings, obvioulsy with the turbo give getting the edge by a couple miles per gallon. What do you think would happen to fuel economy at autobahn speeds, say 120-140 mph. Would the v8 be able to hold lower revs and get better fuel economy than the turbo 6? Do you think the v8 turbo or the v8 gts would be able to get better economy at such high speeds?

The turbo 6 is without doubt most fuel efficient. Pushing 2 more cylinders with the turbo 8 or the GTS doesn't come cheap. Apparently, the difference gets even wider in the mountains

Nonetheless, prolonged 120-140 in the USA is best done on racetracks to put it mildly.

Turbo 6 really opens up the aftermarket tuning possibilities.

But I feel divided on the S not being NA 8 - for some reason it don't seem right.

Further, is this the same engine they are putting in the Macan S? Could be an economies of scale call on Porsche's part to keep cost lower!
