Look at the 1958 356 Porsche and the design was functional, if unconventional and maybe a bit funky, and the heritage of that need for functional design is easily seen in the Panamera. So is the family resemblance. Seems a bit spooky, but when you think about it it is more apparent that comprehensive performance is paramount.

"If you analyze the function of an object, its form often becomes obvious"
Ferdinand Alexander Porsche
Too bad that this is now controlled not through a workshop full of engineers, but from a room full of accountants and marketing directors..
..and they gave us the Panamera (and this catchy video)..
..spooky indeed.

Porsche.com says 4,343lbs ![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)

The 2012 Turbo S Car & Driver took for a spin weighs in at 4,450lbs

That's an odd analogy. The 997 GT3 has a curb weight of 3,100lbs.....or 1,550lbs of car per seat.

I guess the difference with a 911 is that it takes a lot more effort (I rather the term brilliance) to make a 997 lighter than it would to make a 4450 LB sedan more efficient to hold more than 4 people for it's size and weight.

I suppose you do have to take into account passenger weight and luggage. Your average American couple weighs about 325lbs, add to that another 50lbs for luggage. That brings your average loaded up Panamera to 5,200lbs.
