The new 2011 Pamameras with "entry and drive" do allow disabling the beep on locking. Earlier models without that feature do not. Porsche is working on a retrofit to allow.

So, I guess this puts it to rest for now.
So what is the "entry and drive" option? My 2011 beeps like this and I am wondering if my car has this option.

Entry and drive refers to the system that allows you to open the car and start it without using the key. It just has to be in your pocket.

Thanks. That is what I was thinking it was, but wasn't sure. My MB had that, but the Panamera I bought does not. The beeps are annoying to say the least.

I am at the dealer now having the annoying beeps turned off...they insisted it couldn't be done, but then checked and it can be done, at least on my 2011 Turbo (with entry and drive). Sounds like a rental car with those horn beeps...will be glad to have that gone...

Hello all. Just wanted to post a follow up on this thread. Spoke to a Panamera owner from California recently that called me after seeing this thread. I informed him that to my knowledge the information posted earlier had not changed. After speaking with Porsche again and researching, I found that as of a software update to the testers in the spring of 2011, this feature can now be deactivated by the dealer using the tester. This now applies to all Panameras as of model year 2010, not just vehicles with entry and drive. I had no way to get back in touch with this gentleman, so wanted to post a follow up here in the hopes he will see it, and can get this done at his local dealer.

Regards,

Thanks for the update Chris! The next time I'm in for service I'll ask them to do this for me.

I too wouldnt mind getting the horn style beeps turned off. I was shocked on my new GTS to her the alert signal as horns, sounds ridiculous. Even my wife started laughing at it. What is interesting is that my previous PTT and 991 had the high pitched actual beeps --not horn noise-- as the alarm set warning. I wonder why the GTS is different? Sounds really stupid for such an expensive car.

I thought the horn signals only come when you are locking the car and something is open, hood, door etc... Its a warning signal. My 2010 PTT is silent.

Isnt it strange how the same car seems to have different systems? I wonder why that is?

It appears that they changed the beep in different model years.

And we're not all in the same countries either, that can change how things work. It sure would help if everyone put their location in their user profile... and when posting questions (or resolutions) if they would list the model year of their car as well.

It was also very strange, us and euro models have the battery in different places, atleast according to the owners manual. I wonder what else is different. Never found out if in reality...

Had my car in for service last week, asked them to remove the beeps on my 2012 S and they did it without question, no problem.

Great, I will ask about this during a visit. I really, really hate that horn beep for locking the car, sounds like a compact car alarm--not a Porsche.

Good to hear. I assume the lights still flash?
