Default Radar Detector Usage

1. Has anyone installed a power supply cable from the overhead console to avoid running long power cables in the interior?

2. Does the windshield, in any way, block the radar / laser signal from penetrating the stock windshield?

Please post photos.

Thanks, JohnnyB

I have a valentine just above the rearview mirror. Took a road trip from Seattle to Monterey - Los Angeles and back to Seattle. The V1 worked at picking up RADAR from front and behind. It also detected laser hits. I do have the special glass. No problem.

Can not say about the hard wire mount but would think with all the stuff up there it would be pretty easy for someone with the skills.

I just had it plugged into the outlet in the center storage where the phone connection is located. I use a long phone cord so it was not in the way. I might get around to hard wired some time.

I hard wired my V1 into the fuse panel on the passenger side. I found an empty fuse slot that is through the ignition so the V1 is turned off when the car is turned off. It was easy to snake the wire inside the trim of the A pillar and then tuck it under the headliner. All in all about a 30 minute job.

Default location of ign keyed fuse

would like to do hardwire for my V1 too...keep doing 100 w/o realizing..
can you describe the location in more detail or take a pic of the location? i suppose it could also depend on whether other cars used that spot for certain factory accessories but...

thanks

Default Dealer Installed V1 Wiring

My dealer installed my V1 using the supplied kit available from V1 (usually obtained when you buy a new unit), cost is $13. Includes the correct fuses and wiring.

Dealer charged 1.5 hours labor and wired into a switched fuse box near the drivers door. Then ran the wire up to the rear view mirror. Left enoufg excess wire so it could be placed on either side of the mirror.

Cheers, JohnnyB
