I would be interested in where the fob you need to leave in the car is stored as I could not find any installation instructions. They claim the fob is "dead" because there is no battery, but the battery is just for the remote functions. A dead fob will still start the car if placed in the appropriate place.
I had the same question on where the fob is stored. I have sent them a message and waiting for the reply. I will let you know as soon as I receive reply.
Here is their response: The key is stored in a key wrap without the battery under the driver side dash. You can stash this high under the dash to ensure this is not easily accessible to anyone else.
Remote start is just another fuel wasting gimmick. I get in the car and go, even when it’s -20 out. 15 min of idling isn’t going to get the car warmed up. Totally useless feature.
You're right that an idling car takes forever to heat up, but in Southern US it's a gamechanger in the summer. The AC compressor starts working immediately so even if the car isn't fully cooled down, just remote starting it as you walk up at least purges the 100+ degree air sitting in it. It is indeed a fuel waster which is why most of the world outlaws it, hence not very common on Euro cars.
For the south, just programming comfort open/close of all windows/sunroof would take care of that hot puff of air. Easily done with a PIWIS.
My 7 series did this OOTB. It could also be programmed to tilt open the sunroof and/or turn on the HVAC blower to ventilate the interior at a specific time of day. Handy in the summer. I first saw this on my brother's 850i back-in-the-day.
Good to know it can be coded to work. Here in the desert SW of the USA the interior gets quite hot even with window tint and shades for front and rear windows.
