So funny story. I brought the car in for an unrelated service. the spring push mechanism worked just fine when I dropped the car off (I know because I keep a few bucks in the tray and took them out when I gave them the car). When I picked it up a few days later and tried to push the ashtray door to open, it wouldn't work! they are ordering either a new spring or a whole new ashtray!
The ashtray breaking is pretty common. I think theres a thread on here somewhere. The part is less than 100 bucks but you have to do a ton of R&I to get to it.
I really want them to fix it, but history has taught me that every time they go to fix something they usually break something else. and if there is a lot in the center console that needs to be removed....
Trim removal in general can be tricky if you don't know what you're doing, more so on a VAG product. If the car has been taken apart before its easier, as the fresh tabs hold so well that there is a fine line between popping the tabs and breaking something.
Mine was replaced during CPO reconditioning. 971-857-335-B-1E0 is the part number for black... Not sure why there are different colors though, as the cover with the Panamera logo on top is separate.
My CPO repair order says the part lists for 91.10 and they paid the tech 2 hours to fix it. I bet that's warranty book time, and it would be more if you were paying.
thank you! that is a significant amount of work to replace a minor part. I shudder to think of what else could be broken in the process. if it were not under CPO I wouldn't bother.
