Was in the same boat as you. Ended up with a 2018 4S ST 25k miles. Have to admit coming from a 2016 Stage 1 Golf R, I found the stock 4S a bit boring. Did a Stage 1 ECU & TCU tune and its dynamite. Much more enjoyable than my Golf R. Dyno has the tune at approximately 574hp / 673tq crank (487whp / 571wtq )
Personally Id skip the GTS, but thats me.
I've always wanted the Sport Turismo GTS ever since it came out. The car is so beautiful, fast, and practical, but used GTS wagons are so rare and expensive. Instead, I found a loaded 4S with 28k miles for $67k. It's in a great color and has the assistance package and sport package that includes PASM, rear-wheel steering, sport exhaust, massage seats, etc., making it a great candidate for my daily driver and my first Porsche ownership since I am thinking of replacing my Mk8 Golf GTI.
Except for the engine displacement and horsepower (V6 vs. V8), I don't see a huge difference between GTS and 4S. Any experience with the 4S? Known issues, etc? Is 66k (75k) after taxes and fees a good deal for this car that is loaded and has only 28k miles on it?
FWIW that seems like a good deal with those options from what I've seen. I ended up paying 60 for similar options with higher miles. (and a lot of stuff addressed like new tires, brakes, etc)
One thing that scared me was the rocker issue that Audi faced with this engine. Just search 2.9T engine issue. Supposedly the issue was corrected somewhere in 2018 build. There has been a lot of debate on that issue and what causes it. Yes it is a defect, but a lot of people who change the oil early and don't follow the 1 year 10-12k miles seem to not have issues. There was a posting with build dates where the engine was corrected. I was able to find a Turbo ST for a little bit more and got that instead.
My indy wasn't concerned. (and they're a mostly audi shop) It looks like there are some internal differences between the audi and porsche versions. And they have slightly different displacements.
