2015/16 Turbo or Turbo S vs. 2017/18 Turbo
I'm new here. Thanks for all the great info.
I made almost this same post in another thread and then realized i should've started a new thread, maybe. Cant figure out how to delete the other post. Sorry about that.
I'm looking at 2015/16 Turbo and Turbo S models on the used market. The new 971 heavily (more so than 970) electronic chassis kinda scare me. I'm not sure if it's justified...just a bad feeling...like im gonna be back at the dealer a lot. I do a ton of my own maintenance, but not sure how much I could do on the later model.
A 17/18 Turbo can be had for about 15-20k$ over what a 15/16 Turbo costs...depending on options of course. Better to spend a little more for the newer stuff or get a fully optioned older version?
And there's the question about options...fully option vs just enough options...thoughts? What are the must haves? ACC is a must have for me.
I've been a BMW guy for life. This will be my first Porsche. Trying to tap the vast brain trust here so as not to make a mistake that could easily be avoided with knowledge.
TIA.

Get the 971. Consensus around here seems to be that the 971 has fewer issues than the 970 due to design improvements. This is from reading threads discussing this here, no personal experience w/ a 970.
You should be able to get a 2018 971 with a CPO warranty through maybe 2024 or 2025.

They all have air suspension issues, no? The 971 has that crazy vibration issue people cant seem to figure out...probably electronic. Not to mention a myriad of other nicknacky **** going back to the dealer for...electronic gremlins. I have seen at least half a dozen lemon titles for 2017-2018 cars for sale.
Don't get me wrong. I haven't yet decided which I'll end up with. The 971 Def looks better. The turbo has that crazy advanced V8 that gets pretty decent MPG. The 4S V6 has gobs of power as well (and decent MPG)...and maybe tunable for more HP? (Have that question asked in a new thread)
There are several fully optioned 15/16 Turbo and Turbo S models in great condition with 50k miles for sale in the high 60s...20k less than an 18 971. The price gap can be less (10k) if sport chrono is not on the 971. But if I'm buying a 971 it will have ACC and Sport Chrono.
But is it worth the 20k more? And (possibly) more headaches?
Thanks for all input.
