Saw this in the 997 forum. Not necessary for that vintage Porsche but I wonder if this would work with our 970/971 without having to code the battery in.

I used one when I replaced battery on my 2014. It promptly blew the fuse to the OBD port and thus saved nothing. At the first reply in the referenced post notes, just connect charger at 2 amp setting to your battery cable leads.
