Default PDK fluid change

Today I was changing my oil in my 2017 4S (971)and in a BONE HEADED move, I drained the PDK. Does anyone know the refill procedure for the PDK?

Thanks in advance

There is a filler plug on the back end of the unit , need to remove a cover/shield . then fill till full /runs out . Oil is pricy , 8 or 9 liters . Most often the filter is changed at the same time . Its part of the pan , you change the whole thing . 400 for the pan, 400 for the oil .

Digs

I looked for the drain plug under my panamera( it’s on a lift) and I can’t see any shield etc at the back of the tranny unit that would be hiding a drain plug. Any chance you could provide more details?

thanks in advance

Steve

Thanks to both of you for your help.

The 971 is different than the 970, there is no fill plug in that location on my 971. I’ve looked all over the internet and have found nothing on the filler plug location fir the 971. You wouldn’t think it would be such a mystery!

Thanks again.

You need special tools or something that you can pump the fluid into the transmission.

You need to pump the fluid thru [3] till the fluid starts to leak out from [4]. The first image shows what Porsche dealers use. Roughly 9 litres of pdk fluid required.

so if the fluid is supposed to leak out of from 4, can’t you just fill from there instead of 3?

So long as you get the proper volume of oil in you may get away with filling through vent /level plug . Be overwhelming to find out it didn't go where it was supposed to ?

this looks like the proper procedure :

unlike doing this job on a 944 turbo transaxle where you fill from the side plug squeezing in 2 bottles.., I would use my brake power bleeder, just need that adapter which appears to screw into the bottom. When filled flowing out side does it drain as you unscrew the bottom adapter and try to put in the plug or is there a drainback fitting? Not sure about that part.

I was wondering that as well because I was thinking just using a hand pump to pump fluid in.

The orange yellow tube in the diagram above is a built in structure. Instead of inserting a flexible hose all the way into that “tunnel” and fill and spill, the adapter allows you to attach the hose and fill the transmission without any spill. That’s it. When oil level exceeds the upper end of the orange yellow tube, it flows back out.

To me, Porsche over complicated this procedure by having the fill hole at the bottom instead of on the side.

That internal tube method makes it easy for the shop that's got the filler system . Very quick , yet still flat rate charged !
