Default 970.2 Voluntary Emissions Recall

Just got a letter from PCNA to have the dealer reprogram my ECU to reduce exhaust emissions when driving in Sport+. 970.2 P4 3.6L NA engine.

It doesn't cover 970.1, I'm not sure if I'm relieved or disappointed though. I thought it was heading towards a buyback at first like the diesel gate.

It somewhat made sense, when you have an additional 10-20hp on the 970.2 with the Base, S, GTS, Turbo, Turbo S, etc. with no significant physical difference in the engines from the 970.1. Sure they can claim improved intake/exhaust air flow or whatever, but you figured with their R&D reputation that the maximum hp numbers was already accomplished with the 970.1 and its emission requirements

Not to sound like a conspiracist or anything, but I feel like the recall will be neutering the Sports Plus on the 970.2 or dialing it down to the 970.1 hp numbers. It might be negligible and might not feel the difference, some owners may not care...who knows.

I think it covers that vintage Cayennes with Sport Chrono. Looks the same as the 981 Cayman recall.

Default Recall-DME and trans c/u

First time on forum-Took my 2014 cayman s in for maintenance. Porsche told me about recall. Never mentioned how it would affect Sports Plus. Got car back yesterday. Sports Plus is basically gone and functions like Sport Mode. Drove it straight back to Porsche. First Told car needs to re learn my driving. They eventually admitted recall does affect Sports Plus but refused to admit its been neutered. Tried and failed to get them to put car back to original Sport Plus. Any advice? Can an independent Porsche Mechanic delete DME recall? Thanks

Never driven my P4 in Sport Plus so no skin off my nose. Hard driving is what my Carrera is for. LOL.

Was any more learned about this recall? Got the notice today for our 2015 GTS. From the above, my inclination is to not do it.

Thanks

The altering of sport plus was due to the settlement of a fuel economy and emissions lawsuit. The settlement includes current and prior Porsche owners.

If you file a claim before November 7th 2022, then you will receive between $200 and $1,100. To receive the maximum cash settlement, most vehicles require receiving an engine/transmission reflash that alters sport plus mode.

The settlement includes many Porsche models, and includes every non-hybrid Panamera ever sold in the USA. Of note, the 2010-2013 Panamera 4S can receive a settlement of up to $948.66. All other non-hybrid Panamera models receive $200.

Looks like this is still being pushed (Euro 5 diesel) - just got a letter today - it also mentions an HVAC recall

Default Spellcheck

I’m never going back if this is mandatory. I would miss sports plus.
