Default Help with removing tailgate interior trim

I’ve been searching (unsuccessfully) for a “how to” for removing the tailgate interior trim/panel so I can investigate a brutally annoying rattle somewhere in the tailgate. I found many, many threads on adjusting the tailgate stoppers, adding foam here, velcro there but nothing has solved this damn rattle. It’s driving me bonkers. I’ve spent weeks trying the different methods suggested in other threads I found to no avail. Earlier today I had the wifey drive while I laid in the compartment listening for the sound. It’s most definitely coming from inside the tailgate, between the body and the interior panel. Sounds like a cable or something that rattles at low rpms at highway speeds.

So…I’m looking to see if anyone has pulled this trim before? I popped the switch out with my trim removal tool and located a bolt behind it. That’s as far as I got, though, as I was nervous about forcing trim off and breaking something. Nothing stuck out to me as the next piece I needed to pop off to locate more bolts. I found a post on the 718 page but it’s too dissimilar to help. Any help greatly appreciated.

It's a pain and the pieces are easily damaged. Here are the instructions. BTW, this are also in the stickies at the beginning of the section

Thank you rbrunelle for posting this. I’ve been wanting to open up the rear of my car to wire the rear dash camera. This gives me the peace of mind to go forward with the work.

Many thanks! I’m willing to take the risk. I can’t handle the rattle. I’ll try to take some pics along the way to share with the forum.
