Default Panamera Oil level below min after service

Hi all. My first post.
Just had my first service from a Indy Porsche specialist on my 2010 Panamera 3.6 with 90k

The oil level indicates Below Min - even though they say they put exactly the right amount of oil in. it showed up perfect before.
I ran it for a week, and have added 500ml to see if it moved. But no.
Pressure seems good and it runs fine.

Things that p***es me off is that they said "oh Pans do that sometimes"

Does anyone know if they do? Will it resolve? I cant monitor the oil leve now so am sh***ing myself!

Any ideas anyone.......

Default Panamera Oil level below min after service

Hi all

I have a 3.6 2010 Pan that was due a service inc brake fluid and plugs.

So took it to an Indy Porsche specialist.
Since then, the oil level shows up as Below Min - its been a week since it was done. The workshop assured me that they filled up with exactly the right amount.
I've added just 500ml to see if it affected the level shown, but no.
The garage say that this happens on Pans and not to worry!

Great, but how am I supposed to maintain the oil level. I don't want to overfill it, but also don't want it running low.

The pressure is at 2.5 bar

Hoping someone has got an idea.

It COULD be a bad oil level sensor.
it could also be genuinely low.

I’d check the level without the car running first, and see if that changes anything. Just turn your key to the accessory position, then scroll to the oil level screen in the display.
if you still have the low level, it’s worth asking to have the oil level sensor itself tested.

I’d change shops. They should never have returned car after job with oil level showing incorrect, then tell you they put in correct amount. Chris is right on potential causes, and shop should have checked both to determine true issue.
What did level show before oil change? Would be possible but unlikely if sender working prior to oil change it is now sending incorrect data.

Mine is doing something similar, but not as bad, last time a changed the oil and filter I added 9 quarts , showed 1 bar low, added 1/4 quart, same, added another 1/4 now shows 2 bars low ?
but I know it has more than enough oil and it hasn't changed.

Will be doing another change before I put it away for the winter, will see how it behaves then

Run the engine really hot, meaning go on a spirited long drive and then check the oil level. The oil level measurement function on the car works quite well and it is the only reference point about your oil level.

I have used an independent for over 20 years. The guy is the best and is extremely meticulous. He put the exact amount as specified in my wife's 2018 Panamera. When I checked the oil right after it showed over the high mark. I took it back to him and he drained a little out.

I absolutely hate this system and I don't trust it. Give me a good old dipstick anytime.

@knowspin i agree with you. The reliance on a single method for checking a critical fluid is not a good benchmark for design. Seems it also irritates owners too.

Drive it for 7 to 10 miles then recheck.

Sorry about the 2 posts. First didn't show for quite a few hours, so I got paranoid and wondered if I hadn't hit submit.
Apparently the auto-moderator thing stopped them.

Ive asked them to remove it.

Cheers to all who have replied.

I have run it for 10 days now - 4 x 30 mile trips and it's still the same. Going to put another 500ml in(1/2 quart?) to see if it registers.
Still worried about over-filling tho!

Let you know.....

Porsche usually calibrates the display to be 1.8 quarts difference between the full and low indicator.

Thanks everyone for your input, I got there eventually.
So as a few suggested, I added another 500ml (1/2 quart) and the gauge showed "Min Reached" and was yellow instead of red.
Only stayed like this for 5 miles, then "Below Min" again and red. So must have been right on the edge.

So I bit the bullet and put another 500ml in figuring it must be kinda working.
And hey presto, 1/2 full and looking sweet.

Cant believe it took 1.5l to get it showing normal.

So panic over - thanks again.

Glad to hear it worked out. It's always nice to learn something new about your car, isn't it, and you definitely have a functioning oil indicator.

I’ve been following your thread. Thanks for posting your resolution. To be honest, I can’t believe your Indy mechanic let you out the door with the car 1.5L low. Maybe time to find a new service provider…

I had a Porsche dealer send me home after an oil change that was 2 quarts low. By the time I arrived at home, was clear something went wrong. Checked for leaks then called the dealer. They said add some oil and let us know what happens. After my return call I expected a refund for the two quarts but I got nothing. Amazing.

I'm surprised they didn't charge you labor for the phone consultation!
