Default Headlight scratch

Hi to all,

On the weekend, I was parked and the front passenger side headlight cover was scratched. I would like to know if the whole headlight assembly must be changed or if I can change the cover to the assembly only.

Thanks

The cover is not sold separately from Porsche. I think I've seen them available on the aftermarket, but not sure I'd want to go that direction as you would need to bake the headlight first to remove the cover, if that is even possible and then reseal the light and you'd need to be sure that it is water tight. You may want to post a picture, so that we know whether or not you could wet sand it down and then cover with a paint protection film to protect it from yellowing later on.

You can get a pair of new ones which are good as the originals but replacing them is a total nightmare no matter what YouTube videos say... Isn't polishing an option? You can protect them with ppf afterwards

Depending on how bad/deep the scratch is, you may be able to sand it down. I have done this on my daughter's Lexus when they oxidized and they looked as good as new. I taped them off then dry sanded from 320 dry, to wet 400, 600, 800, 1200, 2000, 3000 grit sandpaper, followed by red tripoli polish then white diamond compound with buffing wheels. Shine like new and only takes about 20 - 30 minutes. If you want it to last, you can end with a UV protection clear coat spray on.

Or.....you can replace the whole assembly.

This ^

Or if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, a good detailer could do it much cheaper than a new assembly.
