Default Back Up Camera Options

Folks,
We recently purchased a 2012 Panamera Turbo S with a Burmester sound package. There is no back up camera. Does anyone have a recommendation for an aftermarket or OEM solution?

Thank you very much.

From an OEM perspective it's difficult but not impossible. You would need to run 3 wires front to back, one for power, another two the data lines to the PCM You would need to find inserts for the fuse box for power, and the PCM connector. Best bet on that would be to find a wrecker who would let you cut them off a wrecked car, remove them from that connector and add them to yours then splice to those wires. Then you would need a back up camera module, new one is expensive, used not so much. You would need the connector for it, again need to go to a wrecker, Then you would need the Camera and harness that goes from the camera to the backup module. Finally you would need to splice into the Comfort data lines, nearest module is rear BCM, and attach a ground. Not impossible but not a practical solution since Porsche does not include wires for options not ordered. Lastly you need a PIWIS II or III to program in the backup camera module to the car.
From an aftermarket perspective, this is much easier. There are two options, one is a Back up camera module which can be added depending on your PCM software version, the other is the Joyeauto Wireless Careplay module. This is the route my brother chose for his back up camera. This module has a connector for a standard back up camera, We bought one on Amazon for $60. Then you need to wire the camera power to back up power ( the joyeauto provides this trigger) but the easiest place is to pull power and ground from your back up lights. Then you only need to run the camera wire up front to the Joayeauto module which can mount behind the glovebox and connect the module to the PCM following Joyeauto instructions. It took us 4 hours on a 991 convertible where the bumper needed to be removed and running the camera wire was no easy feat. In a Panamera, running the wire should be much easier as there is a main harness that goes front to back on each side. The joyeauto give you back up camera with the added benefit of Wireless Carplay. Total cost around $500
