I picked up my Panamera today after having the Joyeauto CarPlay kit installed. All told, the installer took about 4 hours to get the kit completely installed - that includes the time taken to install a new microphone and the second USB input for CarPlay access. I highly recommend that if you choose to install this kit, that you make sure your installer places the microphone in the center / front headliner area near the dome light. I’m getting incredible voice reception due to placing the microphone there. The joyeauto kit’s instructions place the microphone at the top of the A-pillar - not a great location due to noise.
At any rate, I highly recommend the Joyeauto kit - the installer was very impressed with it — this wasn’t his first rodeo installing aftermarket CarPlay in PCM 3.1 equipped Porsches. He said it was easily the highest quality kit he’s seen. Functionality is flawless and the upgrades to the PCM system screen for various touch motions works perfectly - it’s a huge upgrade. The system can be controlled by touch or by using the selector ****. The system is also completely up to date and is fully IOS 13 enabled.
please feel free to ask any questions - I’m happy to answer anything I can and will happily refer any questions I can’t answer to the installer: Bonnie & Clydes in Dallas, TX.
Looks great! Thanks for sharing your experience - so the installation was another $300 or so?
I paid a bit more than that for install, primarily because there was some initial uncertainty about the Joyeauto kit and how long it would take to install. I think with repeated installs and the installer having more experience with this specific kit, the price would come down a bit. Regardless, it is a labor intensive install that requires disassembling the PCM head unit and installing several new circuit boards, so I wouldn’t expect it to come down much...
all in all, I personally think the cost is completely worthwhile. CarPlay is pretty fantastic. This particular kit does Android Auto, as well...
unfortunately, I neglected to take pics of the multiple harnesses, circuit boards, the microphone and the USB adapter that’s also supplied with the Joyeauto kit.
I was also extremely impressed with how quickly Joyeauto got the kit to me. I ordered it on Thursday of last week, it shipped on Friday from Hong Kong, and it was delivered to me in Dallas via DHL on Monday morning. That’s pretty damn quick!
Thanks for this info. I’ve been eyeing the Joyeaux CarPlay for some time now. I’ve read a number of mediocre reviews on-line and some say it’s “glitchey”. Have you noticed any issues? Also, can you continue to update this thread as your experience with the unit evolves?

The only thing I would consider to be even remotely glitchy is that when I first started the car up after the install, the forward and reverse arrow buttons on the dash didn’t work with CarPlay. After three or four tries, they started working properly and haven’t been an issue since. I will absolutely keep the thread updated with any issues that might arise.
That's really cool. I remember swapping out the OEM stereo in my old Audi for a CarPlay unit and it felt like my car got 10 years younger!
I know exactly what you mean! Fortunately, the Panamera has a pretty capable system in it already, so this was just the icing on the cake...
one other big benefit is that this Joyeauto system has its own set of audio tone controls and video control settings. This enables you to sharpen up the picture quality and to dial in slightly better sound. It’s probably confirmation bias on my part, but I swear that the sound quality is improved through this thing!
I really want to take the plunge on this, but I'm unsure if I'd be able to handle the install on my own. Watching the videos, it seems like there's a lot of trim removal involved.
Anyone successfully installed one of these without using an installer?

if I had the time, I’d have done the install myself... none of it looks particularly daunting. If you’ll spend a few extra dollars for the proper trim removal tools, I think it’ll be fairly straightforward!
Thanks, I may give it a whirl. The video does make the install look fairly straightforward. And, I don't use the satellite radio, so if I had to lose that functionality to get the add-in card installed, I wouldn't miss it.
I'm a little anxious about how the box just sort of sits behind the PCM unit. I wouldn't want to have that bouncing around and creating any rattling and so on.
You might want to consider some simple velcro or a strap to secure the device from rattling around - my concern is the electronics work involved but if you're handy on a bench it probably won't be too big of a challenge. This upgrade sure seems like a great way to modernize these older vehicles - thanks again to the OP for a great writeup.

I wish I could tell you how my installer secured everything, but I can say that there are no rattles or anything like that going on. The large interface box actually goes under the dash on the driver side of the car, so it won’t be just flopping around behind the PCM head unit. The circuit boards that install inside PCM actually attach to the PCM chassis....
