They like to say new in the ads but the sales contract will say used and the warranty will have begun ticking from the time the car was converted into a demo car. Porsche dealers are paid something like 200 dollars a day for a maximum of two months when they put a car out to demo. After that they sell it as used car since it cannot be sold as new but it does get licensed as new since it has never been titled.
CPO is a very specific program that Porsche offers. Not all used cars are CPO. CPO cars go though a certification program, costing the dealer somewhere between $2500-$3000 that extends the original factory warranty 2 years and unlimited miles. A used Porsche from a porsche dealer is not necessarily CPO’d.
A car might be new in that it never has been registered but could be high miles. For example service loaner cars, porsche experience center cars, executive demos, etc. might be technically sold as “New” because they have not been titled to an individual but are otherwise used cars. Still these cars may or may not be in the CPO program.
I think a dealer can CPO any qualifying porsche new or used. If you see a car that you like, ask about a CPO program for it and be prepared to pay somewhere between 0-$3k extra for it. I think the CPO program is fantastic and well worth it if you plan to keep your car or drive lots of miles.
Quick question....if I'm buying a car that's technically still "new" from the dealer since it's a demo model is that still considered CPO? I guess it's probably a dealer question but seems like you had a similar deal.
do they give you CPO certification? If you don't have this certification, you will not have CPO cover for 6 years. It is a big deal, to state when the warranty will be expired. I have 2018 4S 4.8K miles, volacano, red interior with 21 wheel black, PP+, massage seats, ACC, sport package, thermal glass, night vision. The car is CPO with Porsche CPO certification.
CPO was the best thing I got in my car. Not that its been troublesome but it has had a couple suspension things go that ended up in the $4k range, NO charge through CPO. Get CPO for sure.
